A rural community tucked away in Northern California forests
Fieldbrook is a quiet, rural community in a valley surrounded by dense forests and farmland along California’s north coast. This tiny town is primarily residential, with little to offer outside a community church, a firehouse, an elementary school and a local winery. It’s country lanes lead to nearby towns like McKinleyville and Glendale, both of which are about 5 miles away. “People moving out here want that rural lifestyle while still being five minutes from town,” says Realtor Tina Christensen-Kable of Coldwell Banker Cutten Realty, a longtime resident of nearby Eureka. “You get larger parcels of land, usually five to ten acres, and you get a lot more sun because you’re over the mountain.”
Cabins, ranch styles and custom homes
Homes here sit on large, country lots, some of which back up to dense forests full of redwoods, firs and spruce trees. “The town is on septic and well water,” Christensen-Kable says. Gravel driveways run up to wood-shingled A-frame cabins, ranch style homes and custom-built designs. Some of these homes feature upscale detailing like redwood siding, wraparound second-story porches and floor-to-ceiling windows. Many of these properties occupy several acres of land, making them large enough for small farms or large gardens. Smaller, older homes in the neighborhood can sell for between $350,000 and $500,000, while larger, upscale homes list for between $700,000 and $800,000.
