The heart of Delaware County

Media, Latin for ‘middle,’ is known as the heart of Delaware County, not only because it’s the county seat located right in the center, but because of its commitment to diversity and inclusiveness, which inspired the nickname, “Everybody’s Hometown.” Realtor Jody Allen Evangelista with Coldwell Banker Realty has lived in Media for more than 50 years. She says, "Everybody fits into this town. It doesn't matter who you are, what you believe or who you vote for. Everyone is welcome."

Fair trade shopping opportunities

As America’s first fair trade town, Media lives up to its nickname by improving lives in the community and around the world. Several businesses provide Fair Trade products in an effort to support developing countries. Whether it’s Haitian Blue Coffee from Ocean City Coffee Co., a unique gift from Earth & State or global fashion accessories from Ten Thousand Villages, residents and visitors have plenty of options to support the initiative. Along with these shops, there’s a Trader Joe's for grocery shopping and dozens of local restaurants that line State Street, providing a multicultural dining experience. Fellini Café serves Italian classics alongside live opera music. Brick & Brew is known for its lively atmosphere, gourmet American eats and its famous whiskey sour. After dinner, residents like to catch a show at The Media Theatre, which has been entertaining the community since 1927. State Street transforms into a European-style strip on Wednesdays from May through September for Dining Under the Stars. "It's a beautiful thing," says Evangelista, "The restaurants stay open late and set up tables in the middle of the street and everyone comes out to have a good time."

From Colonials to Victorians

The small town of Media is compact with a variety of homes that date back to the late 1800s through today. Several architectural styles can be found throughout Media, however, Victorian, Colonial and American Foursquare homes are among the most common. There is a mix of single-family homes, twins and rowhomes lined along hilly streets with lots of surrounding trees and greenery, so residents can feel close to nature, despite being close to neighbors. While newer homes built after 2020 are always an option, many homes, even those made in the 19th century, have been renovated so a modern lifestyle is available alongside having the charm and beauty of an older home. Prices in Media start around $350,000, with some homes surpassing $1,000,000.

Search for hidden geocaches

Glen Providence Park provides locals with lots of scenic adventures. With two miles of trails, park visitors can hike through the woods with views of wetlands while searching for geocaches hidden around the park. Most trails lead to a stocked pond, a popular spot for catching catfish and largemouth bass. Birdwatchers also enjoy visiting the park, which has an online database of hundreds of birds that have been spotted in the park. During the summer months, residents look forward to the annual Arts in the Park event, and many come to find a spot in the grass to enjoy live music from local musicians.
