Close to the southwesternmost corner of Tennessee, on the outskirts of Memphis, the Oakhaven neighborhood is situated only about a mile from the Mississippi state line. Sitting alongside the Memphis International Airport and just under 15 miles from the city’s downtown, the sparse suburban neighborhood’s residents have found reason to stay despite its proximity to airborne travel. “Most of the residents in Oakhaven might work at the airport, FedEx or the Amazon distribution center,” says Caleb Parr, vice president of sales and acquisitions with Renshaw Company Realtors. “There’s a lot of industrial areas there and not too many restaurants.”

Home varieties under beautiful foliage

Colonial homes add more variety with their traditional appearance, while Cape Cod architecture alongside more contemporary designs also populate the area. Pricing primarily falls between $100,000 and $150,000 for recent sales within the neighborhood, and some homes in Oakhaven have sold for as low as $50,000 or as high as $200,000. When the seasons change, front yards and the residential streets fill with red and orange leaves from the trees throughout the area. “It’s really close to the Mississippi state line,” Parr says. “If someone works in northern Mississippi but lives in Tennessee, they’re not paying the state income tax. A lot of people work across the state boundary.”
