A beautiful suburb in East Memphis
Those looking for spacious living in a suburban setting while staying close to the hum of Memphis might be looking to settle in Shady Grove. The East Memphis neighborhood comprises several subdivisions that provide modest residences on large, well-maintained lots. “Shady Grove is a beautiful neighborhood,” says local Realtor Lisa Harris, who has been in the industry for 40 years. Yet, folks don’t have to compromise on convenience; the area is rich with recreation, shopping and dining, and Downtown Memphis is only 15 miles west. “People have easy access to the expressway and convenience to everything in East Memphis and the heart of the city,” Harris says.

Spacious mid-century modern living
Homes spread across larger parcels in the many subdivisions here. Shady lots of a third of an acre are framed with mature oaks, creating a spacious suburban feel. “Mid-century modern styles are popular and very sought-after in the area,” Harris says, adding that ranch and neo-colonial styles round out the typical architecture found in Shady Grove. Townhouses and condos offer less square footage for smaller residences without compromising amenities. Condominium communities like Chatham Village feature contemporary units with updated details and provide residents with access to a fitness room and outdoor pool. Though the median price for real estate is $365,000, homes can range from condos for as low as $75,000 to a custom contemporary in a private gated community for $850,000. Estates over 12,000 square feet established on half-an-acre lots can fetch up to $2.3 million.
Shady Grove features quiet residential areas with a wide variety of lot sizes.

Green spaces are in no shortage in Shady Grove. Most notably, Shelby Farms Park is a huge draw for residents. Extending over 4,400 acres, the expansive park features endless recreational options. “It’s a beautiful park in the middle of the city,” Harris notes. “There are places for boating, biking and target practice, as well as walking and hiking trails among lots of wildlife.” Kids explore the Water Play Sprayground in the summer or the Woodland Discovery Playground year-round. When the weather doesn’t allow outdoor play, adventurers head to nearby High Point Climbing and Fitness to scale the rock-climbing walls and participate in yoga and fitness classes.
