Nestled between the flood control canal and State Route 202, Central Mesa East is a community that’s become popular with young families and people looking for a more suburban lifestyle. With a diversified set of housing options available to renters and buyers, this Mesa neighborhood has something for everyone. Multiple parks lay sprinkled across the residential patchwork of streets. The same applies to schools: an entire K-12 education is just a few blocks in each direction. Between all the artistic events and outdoor outings, Central Mesa East is an eclectic neighborhood practically designed for the creative and adventurous. “There’s a lot going on in Central Mesa East,” says Realtor and Mesa resident Sergio Galindo of At Home Real Estate Arizona. “Once you live in Mesa, you don’t want to live anywhere else. It’s a family-oriented city, and its tranquility is what drives people to come here.”
Central Mesa East's various housing options
Those looking at Central Mesa East as their next home can rest easy knowing there are options. Prospective renters have their pick between one-story Spanish Eclectics and luxurious low-rise complexes. A tightly knit group of small, manufactured home communities constitutes the neighborhood's south end. Pricing ranges widely, from the most modest one-bedroom homes at $30,000 to the more sizeable fetching upwards of $265,000. Ranch styles are by far the most common among single-family homes for sale, with small, neat yards, paved driveways and attached garages. These no-frills, two or three-bedroom homes average between $270,000 and $440,000.

Getting the grade in Mesa

Students in Central Mesa East attend Jefferson Elementary, rated B by Niche. When they reach Fremont Junior High, which earns an A-minus overall, students will benefit from the Paws & Peers program. This program ingratiates friendly dogs with students in the classroom as a therapeutic service. East Valley High earns a B-minus.

Mountains, parks and more
With parks so close and mountain trails a short drive north, it’s no surprise that locals stay active. Like many Mesa neighborhoods, folks have views of the Superstition Mountains, where they can access the famous Usery Mountain Recreation Park. They can wander over 3,000 acres or settle down for a weekend at the campsite. Usery Pass Road and Bush Highway are popular among cyclists. Because the area is not too steep, it’s accessible for mountain biking beginners. Golden Hills Park is a pleasant open area with a pavilion to relax under and a playground for kids to explore. The park’s paved walkways make for a lovely afternoon walk. Jefferson Park also features a playground and pavilion, but it also has two basketball courts.
A new and developing Main Street
Restaurants tend to be locally owned, and many of them are brand new. “It’s a different Main Street than it was years ago,” says Galindo. “It used to be only a few businesses. Now, there’s a new one every single day, and it’s vibrant again.” Sourdough Pizza is a local favorite serving up fresh classic recipes. Their décor is quirky, usually featuring some horror element. JJ Madisons All American Grill is a weekend staple that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. If their extensive beer and bourbon list isn’t exciting enough, their venue certainly is. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the staff streams horse races and football games for the eager fans out there. Fresh produce and packaged foodstuffs are within reach at Superstition Ranch Farmers Market, just off Main Street.
Fun at the Arizona Museum of Natural History
Those seeking family-friendly attractions are a short drive from the Arizona Museum of Natural History. The Museum has over a dozen exhibitions to peruse, ranging from the broader 75,000,000 BCE to the more specific Arizona Through Time, focusing on the evolution of species and the changing environment in what is now Arizona across millions of years. For fossil lovers, the Museum website details the various findings at various Paleontological excavation sites. Parents will appreciate the Museum’s birthday party accommodations, allowing for group discounts and booking reservations ahead of time.
Loop 202 provides quick access to the rest of the Central Mesa East.
Utilizing Mesa's public transportation
Buses and ride shares run consistently in the Central Mesa East area. Its convenient location between both main airports allows travelers to shuttle to and from easily. In addition, the neighborhood is quite close to Loop 202, allowing for smoother travel to Arizona’s other cities.
