“There are a lot of homes from the 50s and 60s, but also new communities because the area’s been growing,” says Kenny Klaus, a Realtor with Keller Williams Integrity First. The average home price in Whitman Park is about $400,000, less than neighboring North Center and Evergreen Historic District, where the averages are $450,000 and $425,000, respectively. Homes in Whitman Park typically range from about $300,000 to $500,000. Enjoying the outdoors in Whitman Park

The 10-acre Whitman Park is centrally located within the neighborhood and offers shaded picnic ramadas, courts for basketball and volleyball and walking paths fit for a relaxing stroll. Opened in 1948, the Mesa Country Club covers the southern half of the neighborhood and has been a staple in Mesa for decades, providing its members with a classic 18-hole golf course and plenty of additional amenities, like tennis and pickleball courts, a pool and fitness center. The Salt River is about a mile north of the neighborhood, where fishing enthusiasts can cast their lines for largemouth bass and rainbow trout.

Local dining near Whitman Park

Dining options are south of Whitman Park along Country Club Drive, like Gabby’s Sports Bar and Grill, where customers enjoy a fully stocked bar alongside American comfort food and pool games. Further down the street, Guatalinda Restaurant & Bakery offers a full menu of Guatemalan-style favorites like churrasco (grilled meat) sandwiches, tamales and freshly baked sweets and bread. For groceries, residents head to Walmart on East McKellips Road, about 2 miles from Whitman Park. Annual festivals and spring training in Mesa

The Phoenix Metropolitan Area is home to the Cactus League, also known as spring training for major league baseball teams. Whitman Park is within 5 miles of Hohokam Stadium, where the Oakland Athletics play, and Sloan Park, where the Chicago Cubs play. Tempe Diablo Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Angels, is about 12 miles west in Tempe. Throughout the year, local artists get to showcase their works at events like Mesa Music Festival in April, Mesa Film Festival in October and Mesa Arts Festival in December, all of which are held in Downtown Mesa about 2 miles south.

Getting around Whitman Park

Whitman Park’s northern border is formed by the 202 Loop, which provides easy access to Phoenix, about 16 miles west or a 20- to 40-minute drive, depending on traffic. Valley Metro bus stops along Country Club Drive shuttle locals throughout the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, and about 2 miles south in Downtown Mesa, urban streets are especially walkable, but most locals in Whitman Park regularly drive. Banner Desert Medical Center is about 8 miles southwest, and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is about 10 miles west.
