A stone's throw from Lake Pontchartrain's southern shore, Ferran Place-Courtland Heights is a popular neighborhood in Metairie just an 8-mile drive from downtown New Orleans. The neighborhood suffered considerable damage during Hurricane Katrina in 2005, but has mostly rebounded as one of the top suburbs in Jefferson Parish. It was even considered one of the best places to live in the entire country by 24/7 Wall St. in 2017. "The first thing I notice is how welcoming the people are," says Mark Rodi, a broker with Re/Max Affiliates and a 47-year real estate veteran. "There's close proximity to good schools both public and private, and most of them are within walking distance. So is shopping, if you'd like to stroll to Lakeside Shopping Center."
Ferran Place-Courtland Heights is located about 15 minutes from downtown New Orleans by car.

According to Rodi, "There's been a lot of upgrading of the houses because they were built in the early 60s or late 50s." Ranch-style homes with hipped roofs are common, while Tudors, Cape Cods and New Traditional residences with brick facades can also be found. Homes often price between $200,000 and $400,000, but newer, larger properties with four or more bedrooms can top out around $700,000. Homes here often sell within one to two months.

Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies earns an A-plus Niche grade
Students in Ferran Place-Courtland Heights are served by the Jefferson Parish School District. Children may go to Alice Birney Elementary School before advancing to J.D. Meisler Middle School. Both schools earn an overall grade of C-plus from Niche. Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies, which serves students from Grades 6 through 12 and earns an A-plus Niche grade, sits at the neighborhood's northside in the former Grace King High School building.
