Driving through the wide, gridded streets of Alhambra Heights, you'll see yards with silver palms and gardens of native butterfly orchids, decorative metal fences framing square lawns and plenty of bright colors on home exteriors. Most homes in Alhambra Heights were built in the mid-20th Century, but many have been renovated to modern standards. Single-level ranch and bungalow styles constitute the lion’s share of the landscape, but you can find two-level houses dispersed throughout.

Housing prices vary in this neighborhood, depending on the size of the house and scale of interior touches. “People are driven by price because you have to go to an area that you can afford to live in. For an entry-level single-family home, you’re in the $400,000s no matter what,” says Debbie Cilli, a Realtor with RE/MAX Select Group. A two-bedroom, one-bath home can sell for $550,000 while a larger five-bedroom, three-bath home can sell for $995,000. But a three-bedroom, two-bath home with brand new interior can also sell in the upper $900,000 range.

Residents mainly rely on cars to get around the neighborhood, but those who need public transportation can rely on several affordable alternatives. The NoMi Express Bus Service, a free community bus for the city of North Miami, operates four routes for easy access around town, and the Miami-Dade County MetroBus will take you into Miami proper. For environmentally conscious riders, the Freebee Ride Service offers free rides in electric vehicles, allowing you to go where you need to while reducing congestion on the streets and emissions in the air.

Public school students have the option to apply for several magnet schools here that offer specially focused education. Hubert O. Sibley K-8 Academy is a public magnet school that focuses on design and engineering; environmental, marine and space science; and visual and graphic arts. North Miami Senior High School offers several academy and magnet programs, such as a culinary arts or health sciences, along with the opportunity to earn a Florida Seal of Biliteracy. Both schools receive a C rating from Niche. Alhambra Heights Challenger School and Miami Union Adventist Academy offer options for private, religious-based education.

With a short 10-minute drive east, residents have the chance to enjoy Florida’s natural beauty at Enchanted Forest Elaine Gordon Park. Walking trails take you through 22 acres of native subtropical plants and wildlife. In addition to attending special events throughout the year, parkgoers can rent picnic pavilions for their own celebrations. Enchanted Forest is also home to MM Equestrian Farm, an independent operation that houses horse stables, offers pony rides for kids and a barnyard petting zoo. In 2017, Miami-Dade County chose the park as the location for a modern art monument dedicated to honor its LGBTQ community.

Quick trips to Family Dollar or Be Fresh Supermarket make getting weekly groceries and household necessities an easy errand. For longer lists, national retailers such as Target, Costco and Home Depot sit about 15 minutes away, right off Route 1. With Interstate 95 defining the western edge of the neighborhood, residents’ immediate access to the highway means they can easily head up and down Florida’s southwest coast. Downtown Miami is a 15-minute drive; Fort Lauderdale, to the north, is less than half an hour.
