Neighborhood in Miami, Florida
Miami/Dade County 33132, 33136
Miami’s Media & Entertainment District, previously known as Omni, is an urban neighborhood made up of high-rise residential towers, and it connects Downtown Miami to the artsy Wynwood district. Here, you’ll find the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, the old headquarters of the Miami Herald, the Perez Art Museum, the Philip & Patricia Frost Museum of Science and the City of Miami Cemetery. The latter is the oldest and first cemetery in the city, having opened in 1897. The area is served by two stations of the Omni Loop branch of the Metromover, a free train system. At Government Center, locals can transfer to the Metrorail, Miami’s heavy rail system with connections to Miami International Airport. Or, they can connect to the Brickell and Inner Metromover loops. So, it’s entirely possible to live and get around in the Media & Entertainment District without a car, and many residents opt to travel by foot, bike, public transit or taxi. Bicycle initiatives have been implemented throughout the city, with bike parking and lanes now commonplace. You can even rent the Citi Bikes in the area.
When it comes to residences, high and mid-rise condominium buildings reign supreme. Many of these condominium towers have Art Deco-style architectural features, like the Canvas condos. Meanwhile, the mid-rise Parc Lofts have a much more industrial vibe, while the Casa Bella condo building stands out with its unique ultra-modern design. No matter which building you choose, swimming pools, fitness centers and stylish lounge areas are on the table. Condo prices range from $195,000 to $9.6 million.
Children in the area attend Phillis Wheatley Elementary School, which has an overall Niche grade of C, 202 students and a student-teacher ratio of 14:1. Next, kids attend Jose de Diego Middle School, with an overall Niche grade of C, 894 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17:1. Teenagers attend Booker T. Washington Senior High School, with an overall Niche grade of B-minus, 1,017 students and a student-teacher ratio of 18:1. Students can apply to individual academies that focus on career paths like engineering, information technology, entrepreneurship, hospitality and tourism or the JROTC.
The 8-acre Margaret Pace Park is a beautifully landscaped green space providing residents with waterfront walking trails, basketball and tennis courts, picnic tables and sand volleyball. You’ll also find Venetian Marina & Yacht Club in the neighborhood, home of the world’s largest boat and yacht event—the Miami International Boat Show. The marina has 186 wet slips for vessels up to 110 feet, with unrestricted access to Biscayne Bay and the ocean. Art enthusiasts will love Maurice A. Ferré Park, formally known as Museum Park. The park, which doubles as an open-air museum, is a green space that offers a unique flair via its combination of permanent and rotating art installations displayed along its picturesque lawns, dog park and bayfront walkway. The artsy park is the backyard for two Miami staples: the Philip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, which features the state-of-the-art Frost Planetarium, and the Perez Art Museum, which displays 20th and 21st-century art highlighting Miami’s cultural diversity. Meanwhile, locals can see performances from the Florida Grand Opera, Miami City Ballet and many other special events at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.
Fantastic dining options are within walking distance of residences, from the casual eatery to the high-end restaurant. When locals need groceries and household necessities, Price Choice Supermarket and Publix are within reach. For luxury resort-style living by the water with plenty of arts and entertainment at your fingertips, Miami’s Media & Entertainment District is a great choice.
