Farmlands turned desirable suburb with thousands of homes
Richmond West was initially rolling farmlands that stretched west of major Miami attractions, like the Miami Zoo and the Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park. In the 1980s, developers came in and started to build subdivisions – and by the tail-end of the 1990s, thousands of homes filled quiet streets and avenues west of SW 137th Avenue. Farmlands still sprawl beyond the neighborhood’s western border, but at its heart, Richmond West is a suburban community with easy access to big-box stores and locally owned restaurants. “It’s a very diverse, suburban community with a lot of different restaurants,” says local Realtor Margend Palacios of Sellstate Powerhouse Real Estate Group. He’s sold homes across the region for nearly two decades. “Plus, you have access to the Metrobus and are close to the turnpike.”
