Sweeping along the coastline and back toward the mainland, Port Monmouth offers stunning views of the water and New York City skyline to residents. The neighborhood’s beachside living, beautiful parks and good schools make it an ideal place for people of all ages to live, tied together to form a small, caring community. Less than 2 miles from the center of Port Monmouth to the Belford ferry, Port Monmouth also draws residents who commute to New York City, with the ferry only taking about 40 minutes to reach Pier 11 in Lower Manhattan.

No matter what draws people to Port Monmouth initially, they’re bound to be drawn to the friendly, open nature of their neighbors. “Some very nice people, really nice neighborhood, great neighbors,” said Realtor Carole Kubis of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, who lives in the neighborhood herself. “They brought little gifts for me for Christmas, and cookies.”

The neighborhood’s streets are lined with a mixture of Cape Cod and Colonial-style homes. Many of these homes are newer builds, and they often have coastal influences to their designs, from second-story entrances to scalloped shingle or “fish scale” siding detailing near the rooflines. Though homes along the water can climb to at least $1 million, according to Kubis, most homes in Port Monmouth range from the upper $300,000s to the $600,000s. “It’s a nice community for young couples to be buying a house. You’re getting a lot of bang for your buck, really,” said Kubis.

That bang for your buck goes far beyond home sizes or values, too. Being so close to the beach, Port Monmouth is practically overflowing with ways to enjoy beachside living and the outdoors as a whole. Bayshore Waterfront Park provides 229 acres of preserved shrublands, tidal creeks, marshes and more alongside a mile-long strip of beach studded with a pier where residents love to go fishing. The pier is within easy walking or biking distance of many of the neighborhood’s homes, further adding to its popularity. “I had an older couple buy a house in Port Monmouth because he liked to fish,” said Kubis.

Port Monmouth is home to several other popular parks, including Henry Hudson Trail County Park, which contains beautifully forested walking and hiking trails with a creek running through it. When they want to play sports like basketball or baseball, residents can go to Gordon Court Park or Butler Park. The neighborhood is part of the Middletown Township Public School District, which earned a Silver-level certification from the Future Ready Schools NJ Certification Program. Children will attend schools like Thorne Middle School, where they can participate in a range of extracurricular activities or the After School Learning Academy.

Port Monmouth’s small community allows residents to reclaim the experience of knowing their neighbors while fulfilling the practical needs of a good school system and accessibility to New York City, all set against a backdrop of beautiful waterfront scenery.

We have had several major floods in the past few years, brought on by Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy. Minor flooding occurs semi-frequently, mostly affecting a select few streets. The power often goes when there are thunderstorms, and trees sometimes fall. We receive a good amount of snow for the NY/NJ area, but can experience more extreme temperatures as a result of our proximity to the water.

There is not much to be said for the nightlife in this area, though there are a few decent bar/restaurants. The town is good for fresh, affordable seafood (as it's located right on the bay), and the diner is also relatively popular.

This area gives a lot of options for going out to eat or even for some drinks. There are plenty of restaurants on around especially if you were to head into Red Bank which has many bars and a popular nightlife. During the summer there are a lot of popular bars and restaurants down by the beaches which are only a few minutes away.

Port Monmouth is a very small town, so job options are mostly limited to the supermarket, the pharmacy, and the gas station. The surrounding area has a good number of small businesses and chain restaurants, but it is still quite difficult to find a job.
