Greenwood's location just east of downtown Midland
Just a few miles from downtown Midland, Greenwood is a small subdivision within walking distance of churches, schools and a park. “What we lack for the scenery, we make up for in the people,” says Kerri Payne James, owner of The Agency KPJ who sells all over Midland. “When people come to Midland, they love our community.” Residents have easy commuting access with a major interstate to the south. Homes vary from brand new to older investment properties in need of renovations. The neighborhood has no HOA.
Homes built in the '50s all the way up to 2025
The majority of Greenwood's homes are bungalows built between the early and mid-1950s, but there is also newer construction, with some houses built as recently as 2025. Properties tend to sit close together on an average of less than a quarter of an acre with fenced-in backyards. The neighborhood is primarily set up in a grid of wide paved streets and narrower dirt roads in between rows of houses, except for the short cul-de-sacs off Cloverdale Road. Single-family homes range from just under $90,000 to $340,000. Homes here stay on the market for an average of 15 days, compared to the national average of 47.
Attending Midland Independent Schools with magnet options
Bunche Elementary receives a C-minus grade on Niche. Goddard Junior High serves seventh and eighth graders, and ninth graders go to Midland Freshman High, both of which receive a C grade. Midland Senior High has around 2,500 students and a C-plus rating. Students can take part in Midland Independent School District's STEM+M program in partnership with Baylor College of Medicine. Families have options with magnet and transfer schools within the district. Young Women’s Leadership Academy is a new charter school for grades 6 through 12. It earns an A-minus.
Swimming at Washington Park and events at Centennial Park
In addition to baseball fields, basketball courts and a playground, Washington Park is home to an aquatic center that’s open from May to August. The outdoor pool has two twisting water slides. The neighborhood is a few miles from the city’s most-utilized park. “Midland has invested quite a bit into our downtown, so now we have Centennial Park, which is a huge green space,” says Braun Burkholder, Realtor with The Agency KPJ, who has lived in Midland for nearly 40 years. “In Midland, we don’t have a lot of those.” The green space also hosts many events throughout the year, like Movies in the Park.
Dining on Florida Avenue and nearby shopping centers
There are a few restaurants near the neighborhood, including El Buen Gusto and La Carreta Loncheria. There are more restaurants along East Florida Avenue, including Martinez Bakery, which opened in 1990 and is known for its Mexican pastries as well as oversized tacos and toras. Midland Crossing Shopping Center is a short drive away and has a Walmart and McDonald’s. Lowe’s Mercado is the nearest grocery store.
Traveling on Interstate 20 and Route 250
Greenwood is primarily car-dependent, but there are Midland Odessa Urban Transit District, also known as EZ-Rider, bus stops. The neighborhood is just North of Interstate 20, and drivers can merge onto the thoroughfare in about 3 miles. They can also navigate the city on Route 250, also called The Loop. Midland International Air and Space Port is about 14 miles away on I-20. Midland Memorial Hospital can be reached in about 4 miles.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
