Northgate is a convenient and established Midland neighborhood
Northgate is an established neighborhood on Midland’s west side. Large lots feature grassy lawns and mature trees, and homes are typically priced moderately. With a location near Texas state Highway Loop 250, the neighborhood is a short drive from the Midland Park Mall, the airport and the rest of the city. “The homes in Northgate don’t stay on the market long,” says Realtor Daina Perkins with eXp Realty, who was born and raised in Midland. “It’s in a great location, the homes are nice and very affordable. If they are priced right, they’ll go quickly.”
1980s homes on large lots
Northgate is an established neighborhood with green grass and developed trees. “It’s not cookie-cutter,” Perkins says. “They started building in the 1980s, so the landscaping is mature.” Sidewalks line wide, walkable streets and above-ground powerlines cast shadows onto backyards enclosed by wooden fences. Brick ranch-style homes are common and typically range in price from $320,000 to $400,000. “A lot of the lots over there are huge,” Perkins says. “It’s on the unusual side.” Over half of Northgate residents rent, and apartments near Loop 250 and Holiday Hill Road accommodate them.
Shopping and dining along Loop 250
Northgate residents are near many shopping and dining options, making running errands quick and easy. CVS pharmacy sits on the corner of Briarwood Avenue and Holiday Hill Road, and there’s a Walmart Supercenter at the intersection of Loop 250 and Midland Drive for grocery trips or quick errands. Surrounding the big-box store, Texas Roadhouse, Wendy’s and Panda Express give residents options when dining out. On the other side of Loop 250, residents will find well-known retailers like Target, The Home Depot and Staples. The Midland Park Mall is a 2-mile drive east and features over 90 retailers, from JCPenney and Dillard’s to American Eagle and Old Navy. The mall’s food court features restaurants like Fuddruckers, Longhorn Steakhouse and Chick-fil-A. For medical services, Midland Memorial Hospital is about 5 miles southeast.
Students zoned for Midland Independent School District
The Midland Independent School District serves Northgate. Students may attend Parker Elementary and Abell Junior High School, both of which earn B-minus scores from Niche. Next, students can attend Legacy Freshman High, which receives a C from Niche, and Legacy High School, which gets a C-plus and offers dual enrollment courses with Midland College.
Nearby C.J. Kelly Park and John P. Butler Park and Youth Sports Complex
C.J. Kelly Park spans 66 acres just west of Northgate. Here, Kids run around the large playground, anglers cast their lines into the fishing lake and recreational sports leagues play on the lighted football, softball and baseball fields. The nearby 33-acre John P. Butler Park and Youth Sports Complex is also a hub for rec teams. When they’re not competing, visitors can take their kids to the playground or host a cookout at the picnic area with grills. For outdoor fun throughout the city, the Midland Parks and Recreation Department hosts Movies at the Park, an event where family-friendly films play in different parks.
Getting around Northgate
Northgate is car-dependent but has easy access to Loop 250, ensuring residents can easily travel throughout Midland. Loop 250 connects to U.S. Interstate 20, which can take residents from West Texas to the state's center. Odessa, the next town over where many residents go to eat out, shop or work, is about 20 miles east. For air travel, the Midland International Air & Space Port is about 11 miles away.
