Historical rural town in the countryside
Founded by a railroad company in the 1830s, Midway is a rural township in the heart of Kentucky’s Thoroughbred Country that’s known for its old-timey railroad town architecture and plethora of community festivals. “It’s such a quaint little historical town. People are friendly, and it’s got all the charm and character you could possibly want,” says Real Estate Agent Gail Popovitz with Rector Hayden Realtors, who has almost 20 years of experience.
Craftsmans, ranchers and farmhouses
Most homes in Midway are located near the town center along small neighborhood streets. Craftsman homes with front gables are popular and cost anywhere between $260,000 and $680,000, depending on square footage. Colonial Revivals are similar in price and come with attached garages. For something smaller in size, Cape Cods in the neighborhood are around 1,500 square feet and cost $350,000 to $600,000. Ranch-style homes are even more affordable, at a price range of $150,000 to $270,000. Out in the countryside, Midway has horse farms and farmhouses on large lots of land that can get up to $2 million.

Local places along Railroad Street
Midway’s Main Street – or as the locals like to call it, Railroad Street – is lined with small shops and restaurants that people can visit in their free time. There are a couple of gift shops with knick-knacks, including Midway Gift Store and Breckinridge, a bookstore and a home goods store. When it comes to dining, The Brown Barrel & Blind Harry’s is a casual place to eat, with fried catfish and pork belly entrees. Across the street, The Goose & Gander is an American bistro with an outdoor patio. Try their steak or chicken parmesan. Heirloom is a fine-dining restaurant with French-inspired dishes like chicken liver or crab cakes. Those who want something casual or to make their own home-cooked meals can travel up the road to Midway Corner Grocery. “At lunchtime, they have a grilling station in the back and will make burgers. A lot of people who work nearby will go over there for lunch,” Popovitz says.
