Country feel where mill workers’ housing remains
Although it's less than 10 miles south of Worcester, Massachusetts, Bramanville Village feels like the country. Wild brush sways in the wind, large pine trees drop their needles onto grassy front lawns, low stone walls line some roadsides and there isn’t a single stoplight in the neighborhood. Bramanville Village once accommodated folks who worked in paper mills on Brierly Pond or other nearby bodies of water. Today, the mills are shuttered and have been replaced with warehouses and a few small businesses. But the former workers’ homes remain, and many current residents commute to jobs in Worcester, Boston or Providence. “There’s a great mix of suburbia and rural living here,” says Eileen Wright, a broker with Keller Williams Realty North Central who has sold several homes in the area. “The houses are closer together, you’ve got tons of shopping in neighboring towns and Interstate 90 is nearby.”

Colonial-style multifamily properties and modest single-family homes
Two-lane West Main Street cuts through the center of Bramanville Village. Many Colonial-style duplexes or apartments line this cracked roadway, accommodating the majority of residents who rent. As the name suggests, single-family homes on High Street sit on a ridge overlooking Main Street. Wild brush and mature oak, maple and pine trees surround roadsides. Potential homebuyers can find Colonial Revivals or ranch-style homes ranging in price from around $345,000 to $685,000, depending on the property’s size, age and condition. Bramanville Village’s median home price is lower than that of both the Worcester metro area and the United States.
Bingo and karaoke on West Main Street, grocery shopping 2 miles away
West Main Street leads about 1 mile to Downtown Millbury, a quaint town center with pedestrian areas, the Millbury Public Library and some local shops and restaurants. Along the way, there are garages, warehouses, a few small businesses and First Congregational Church. St. Charles Hotel is the neighborhood’s local watering hole, and visitors can sip beers, sing karaoke or play bingo until midnight on weekdays or 2 a.m. on weekends. Across the street, the Village Knoll Deli & Spirit sells grab-and-go items, from beer and wine to bread and chips. For a more extensive grocery trip, there’s a Goretti’s about 2 miles away on Providence Street. The Shops at Blackstone Valley are about 2 miles north of the neighborhood. This open-air shopping center has big-box retailers like Target and Best Buy alongside chain eateries like Longhorn Steakhouse. Nearby Worcester offers a range of shopping, dining and entertainment establishments, mainly concentrated on Shrewsbury Street or the Canal District. For medical services, Saint Vincent Hospital is about 7 miles north.

Fishing, boating, skating at Millbury’s four ponds
“This area is certainly known for its nature,” Wright says. Several ponds are scattered throughout Millbury. Within Bramanville Village is one of the area’s smallest: 18-acre Brierly Pond. Here, there’s a kayak launch and a trail network for hikers or mountain bikers. When the water freezes in the winter, ice skaters glide across its surface. Just outside the neighborhood is Millbury’s largest body of water: Lake Singletary. While technically a "great pond," it’s referred to as a lake due to its nearly 350-acre size. Because it has a concrete ramp and a parking lot, this is a popular boating spot. Visitors can cruise through coves on Lake Singletary’s northern and southern portions or cast their lines and go fishing. The water is stocked with largemouth bass and trout, as well as black crappies, sometimes larger than 3 pounds. Nearby Dorothy Pond spans 14 acres and is another go-to for fishing, picnicking or strolling around the water.
Brierly Pond is also home to a network of trails in Bramanville Village.

7 miles to Worcester, 34 miles to Providence, 45 miles to Boston
“A lot of commuters live here because of how close it is to Boston and Worcester,” Wright says. Route 146 – or the Worcester-Providence Turnpike – is just outside the neighborhood. It leads about 7 miles north to Worcester and about 34 miles south to Providence. Boston is about 45 miles east, and locals can get there using Interstate 90, which has an entrance about 3 miles north of the neighborhood. To reach the state capital using public transportation, there are commuter train stations in Worcester and nearby Grafton. There’s also a park-and-ride lot about 3 miles north where locals can carpool to work in Boston. For air travel, the Worcester Regional Airport, a domestic airport with limited flights, is about 11 miles north, and the Boston Logan International Airport is about 48 miles east.
