Maple Tree is a Milwaukee suburb made up of apartments, town houses and calm residential streets lined with single-family homes and apartments. Public schools within 2.5 miles
The neighborhood gets its name from Maple Tree Elementary School, which operates just north of the residential section, within walking distance of many homes. This school is for kindergarten through fifth graders and boasts above average reviews from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (WDPI). It has a C-minus Niche rating. Outside the core classroom, students can engage in various creative and physical activities, from knitting club to co-ed flag football. Public school students in sixth grade and beyond can attend Morse Middle School for the Gifted and Talented, rated C-minus from Niche, and, after that, Vincent High School of Agricultural Sciences. The high school has a D-plus Niche rating. Both those schools are within 2.5 miles of the neighborhood.

Mid-century single-family houses, condos and townhouses
Maple Tree is a triangular neighborhood at the intersection of Fond du Lac Freeway and Mill Road, just less than 10 miles northwest of downtown Milwaukee. A small collection of single-family homes can be found in its southwest section, mainly split-level and ranch-style houses from the mid-to-late 20th century. Two-story, side-by-side duplexes line several streets, while more town house-style units are available at the Royal Orleans Condos. This development features over 100 two-story, three-bedroom homes from the 1970s, with prices starting around $60,000 and tapering off around $100,000. “You can live in something like that cheaper when buying than you can by renting,” said Realtor Robert Yeager, who sells houses in the neighborhood with Realty Executives Elite. “Plus, the homes are well-maintained.” Single-family homes start in the high $100,000s, which might get someone a three-bedroom split-level house needing light touchups. On the pricier end, a well-kept, four-bedroom house could reach the mid-$300,000s.

A paved multi-use trail system and access to Dretzka Park
Maple Tree attracts outdoorsy types for its access to the Menomonee Line of the Oak Leaf Trail. The 135-mile, multi-use trail system stretches across Milwaukee County and offers a nature-rich experience for bikers and pedestrians. Cyclists and walkers enter the trail at the southeast tip of the neighborhood. The trail follows the Menomonee River into Wauwatosa and downtown Milwaukee. Additionally, Maple Tree is also about 3.5 miles southeast of Dretzka Park, a 326-acre public green space with one of the county’s most challenging public golf courses. The park also has a disc golf course. People ice skate on the pond when it freezes over and sled on the snowy hills. Young children can enjoy the playgrounds while their siblings and parents play baseball.

The neighborhood does not offer entertainment options, but Milwaukee hosts multiple festivals every month. Each April, local breweries participate in the Pours for Parks Beer Festival to raise funds for Milwaukee County Parks. In August, Pabst Theater features the Fresh Coast Jazz Festival, which showcases smooth jazz stars and up-and-coming talent. “Italian Fest is my favorite. Any place you can eat and drink while walking, that’s heaven,” said Realtor Sandy Ertel, who sells houses in Maple Tree with RE/MAX Lakeside. Major League Baseball’s Brewers play at American Family Field, about 9 miles southeast of Maple Tree. The 2021 NBA championship-winning Bucks play at the Fiserv Forum in the downtown.

Getting around Milwaukee
For folks who want to save on gas, public bus stops are on West Mill Road, North 107th Street and West Fond du Lac Avenue. Fond du Lac Freeway borders the neighborhood to the east.
