A water-centric, condo-heavy community
Northridge Lakes is among Milwaukee’s northernmost neighborhoods, bordered by Brown Deer to the east and Mequon to the north. True to its name, a small lake anchors the community, offering waterside views to several residents and pedestrians using its shoreline trails. It’s been a stronghold of multi-family housing since the 1970s, when the area surrounding Northridge Mall boomed promisingly. Though the mall closed in 2003 after two troubling decades, Northridge Lakes remains a well-populated spot for homes costing significantly below Milwaukee’s average. “There’s not a lot of turnover in the community,” says Broker Executive Dionne Barnes of Realty Executives Integrity. “People like to live there for a while.”

The water roughly divides Northridge Lakes into two sections: apartments for rent to the west and homes for purchase to the east. East Bay on the Lake comprises most of the latter, offering two- to four-bedroom condominiums from the early 1970s. Each of its two clusters of apartment-style buildings centers around a community pool. Detached housing is less common in the area and is primarily confined to a small section along North 70th Street. Colonials, split-level and ranch-style houses, and a handful of Millennial Mansions appear here, some built as recently as the early 2000s. The average homebuyer will spend around $150,000 on a Northridge Lakes property, though two-bedroom condos start around $90,000. Single-family home prices can reach the $400,000s for four-bedroom builds over 5,000 square feet.
