A calm suburb for settling down
Pheasant Run is a Milwaukee suburb where most residents own their homes, which were developed in the 1960s and 70s. Public bus stops, greenspaces and even the local elementary school are all either within the community or on its borders. It’s the type of neighborhood where people invest for long-term living. Backyards are spacious enough for barbecues and games of cornhole. The streets are quiet enough for kids to ride their bikes to each other’s houses. About 30% of the neighborhood’s roughly 1,500 residents are children. The neighborhood’s median single-family home price is $305,000, compared to the city’s single-family home price of $210,000.

Greenspaces for soccer, basketball and golf
People cross Donna Drive to reach Popuch Park. Most of Popuch’s 12 acres are open fields ideal for pickup soccer or baseball games. The park also includes two half-basketball courts and a playground. Just west of the neighborhood is Dretzka Park, a 326-acre greenspace that houses an 18-hole public golf course. Disc golfers also have a home there, with a 27-hole course that Head Golf Pro Dave Labinski said is very popular. “They hold tournaments all the time,” he said. After a couple of hours playing either type of golf, people head into the clubhouse to reward themselves with a sandwich and a cold one. “We redesigned the clubhouse, bar and shop area a few years ago,” Labinski said. “It seats about 125 people.” Oak Leaf Trail passes through the park’s southern end. The 135-mile paved pathway meanders throughout the city and connects folks to the downtown.
