Where neighbors look out for one another
Wedgewood residents love its verdant, winding streets, its network of secluded walkways away from traffic and the eponymous green space at its heart. But Milwaukee Alderman Mark Borkowski, a longtime resident of this Southwest Side neighborhood, says the feeling of community and safety keeps residents in Wedgewood for decades on end. "These people look out for one another," he says. "My neighbors know me more than I know about myself." The neighborhood is almost entirely residential, and because of a lack of through streets, the area has a quiet suburban feel while remaining close to Milwaukee for easy commuting.

Ranches and Cape Cods from post-World War II
Homebuyers can expect to find many homes erected during the post-World War II housing boom. Ranch-style houses make up the majority, some with smaller, more linear floor plans, while other larger builds include attached garages or carports. Small two-stories with vinyl and brick siding also feature heavily here, as do Cape Cods. Price tags range between the low $200,000s and the high $300,000s. Lower-cost homes tend to have less square footage and are less likely to have undergone recent renovations. Homes on the higher end usually have more land and a floor plan of 2,000 square feet or more. One oddity of this neighborhood lies in its sidewalks. "The sidewalks are behind the homes, and the front road is like an alley," Borkowski says. "In the spring and summer, it's beautiful with the trees and the foliage," he says. "People are always walking with strollers, walking their dogs or going for jogs."
Drop off every student in one location
Many students in the neighborhood have an easy walk to Milwaukee Public Schools in the neighboring Root Creek area. Honey Creek Elementary, Wedgewood International Middle School, and Hamilton High are all next door to each other, making drop-off and pick-up as simple as it gets. The schools are rated C-plus, C-minus and C by Niche.com, respectively. Wedgewood Park International is Wisconsin's first school to offer the IB Middle Years Programme, which specializes in subject areas from math and science to language and design.

All roads lead to a quaint park
All roads lead to Rome. Well, in Wedgewood, all those back-of-home sidewalks lead to Wedgewood Park, a 6-acre green space in the center of the neighborhood. Here, young children of families usually splash around in the wading pool on warmer days, and the playground and multi-use sports field are fun regardless of the weather. After school hours and on the weekends, many people utilize Hamilton Dell Park. The athletic fields behind Hamilton High feature a baseball diamond, a multi-use field for soccer or football and a quarter-mile track for walking or running.
Highly rated Indian food eight next door
Two well-regarded restaurants near Wedgewood Park offer residents authentic international cuisine. Spicy aromas flood out of Antique Indian Restaurant, and its lunch buffet — featuring such South Asian staples as naan and chicken tikka masala — always leaves visitors feeling full. The long-running Tanino's Italian & American Restaurant serves comfort food classics and jumbo calzones, which have made a particular impression on the locals. Driving or taking the bus south on 76th St will bring shoppers to Southridge Mall. JCPenney and Macy's anchor the plaza, and those looking to buy groceries on the same shopping trip can head across the street to Walmart or drive north to Sendik's Food Market.
The Antique Indian Restaurant is located on the Southwest edge of the Wedgewood neighborhood.

Walk for leisure, drive for work
Two major roads, Morgan Avenue and Howard Avenue, run adjacent to the neighborhood and offer easy access to the surrounding area's major attractions. With the interstate just a few minutes south, commuters can get to downtown Milwaukee in less than 20 minutes and to the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport in about the same time. Bus lines run around the neighborhood's perimeter, but the area is otherwise car-dependent.
Wedgewood is close to downtown Milwaukee but far enough away to make is peaceful.
