Monarch Lakes offers central living in the heart of Miramar

The gated, HOA-managed subdivisions of Monarch Lakes offer central, suburban living in Miramar. The community’s many Spanish Revivals sit on modest, manicured lots along sidewalk-lined streets and scenic lakes. Backyards feature mature palms, live oaks and flowering poincianas. Monarch Lakes is on the city’s main drag, Miramar Parkway, so shopping, dining and recreation are nearby.

Turn-of-the-21st-century townhouses and single-family homes

Monarch Lakes was developed between the 1990s and early 2000s with a variety of Spanish Revivals. The earthy home style is known for having stucco siding, arches and barrel roof tiles. Prices start with townhouses, ranging from the mid $300,000s to the mid $500,000s. Three- to four-bedroom single-family properties range from around the high $500,000s to the high $900,000s. Prices for five-bedroom houses typically fall between $700,000 and $1.2 million. Most of Monarch Lakes is within a special flood hazard area, so homebuyers will require flood insurance for a federally backed mortgage. Hurricane season ranges from the beginning of June to the end of August.

Coconut Palm Elementary, New Renaissance Middle and Everglades High

Miramar is served by Broward County Public Schools, which includes Coconut Palm Elementary. The school earns a B on Niche. New Renaissance Middle, graded B, is a couple of miles east on Miramar Boulevard. Everglades High, graded A-minus, is less than a 5-mile drive away. It’s home to several specialty programs, such as Project RED (Rigorous Engineering and Design) and the FBI/Law Enforcement Academy.

Parks at home and up the road

Right beside the elementary school, Monarch Lakes Park has picnic areas and paved walkways. One path connects to Flamingo Estate Park, a grassy lakeside area with a tennis court and ballfield. More facilities are about 2 miles away at C.B. Smith Park, an almost 300-acre recreational area. The green space has many amenities, from the lazy river and 50-foot-tall waterslides at the water park to the RV campgrounds, complete with sewer hookups, hot showers and electricity for quality glamping.

Many shopping and dining options surround Monarch Lakes

Miramar Parkway runs along the neighborhood's south side, lined with various shopping centers, including the Shoppes at Monarch Lakes. The center has banks, a Publix, a Dollar Tree and other conveniences. It’s also home to Blue Ginger Seafood Steakhouse, a popular Japanese hibachi restaurant with a sushi bar. Monarch Town Center and Miramar Square are across the parkway from each other, offering even more day-to-day shopping and dining options like Sprouts Farmers Market, Cold Stone, Ross and more. As for retail therapy, Pembroke Pines Mall, featuring more than 150 shops and restaurants, is less than 5 miles up Flamingo Road.

Close to public transit, Interstate 75 and Memorial Hospital West

Broward County Transit bus stops are along Miramar Parkway, which also has a ramp onto Interstate 75 about a mile from Monarch Lakes. Access to Florida's Turnpike is closer to 2 miles away on Red Road. The nearest hospital, Memorial Hospital West, is less than 5 miles away. Fort Lauderdale International Airport is the closest place to catch direct flights, just over 20 miles away.
