A residential community north of the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley
Arlington is a small residential community along Interstate 10, just north of the largest industrial and transportation complex in Mobile County. The Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley sits less than a mile away and will soon be home to the city’s first international airport. Aside from a few residential streets, the Arlington neighborhood is home to a large public housing community, RV Taylor Plaza. In 2022, RV Taylor was slated for demolition, but the property was purchased by the Mobile Airport Authority in 2024.
Home to RV Tayor Plaza
Though public housing makes up most of the housing here, a few single-family homes are found in cul-de-sacs east of Kellogg Street. Houses here rarely come on the market. According to a Homes.com calculation, which uses a combination of estimate data, the average home value in Arlington was around $65,000 in December 2024.
Three career programs at Williamson High
Arlington students are zoned for the Mobile County School District. Kids can start at Erwin Craighead Elementary, which earns a C from Niche. Sixth graders move on to Lillie B. Williamson High, which gets a C-minus and offers three career programs specializing in engineering, entrepreneurship and the maritime industries.
Local businesses along Michigan Avenue
Arlington has no shopping or dining options, but a few local businesses are just up Michigan Avenue. Michigan Seafood is a beloved take-out restaurant in an old warehouse. The hole-in-the-wall hot spot serves a hodge-podge menu with dishes ranging from fried shrimp and catfish to barbeque ribs and chicken wings. Groceries, fresh-cut meats and beauty supplies are sold right next door at the Shop & Save Meat Market. For larger grocery runs, folks head to the Piggly Wiggly about 2 miles away.
Walking trails and fishing at Arlington Park
Arlington Park is a 20-acre green space right across Interstate 10. Its paved walking trails overlook the west coast of Mobile Bay, making it a great spot to watch the sunrise. On the fishing pier, folks can watch helicopters take off from the U.S. Coast Guard Station next door. Taylor Park and Community Center hosts several youth programs less than a mile north of Arlington. Through the After School Tutorial Program, elementary and middle school students can receive homework help, join a community sports team or participate in other extracurriculars.
New developments at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley
Interstate 10 and a busy railroad border the southeast side of Arlington. The southernmost transcontinental highway, I-10, links to Downtown Mobile in about 5 miles. It crosses Interstate 65 heading south, which then leads to the Springhill Medical Center about 10 miles north. Though cars are the fastest way to get around, Mobile's fixed-route bus system services the neighborhood along Michigan Avenue. Mobile International Airport is set to open directly across I-10 in March 2026. Located at Brookley Field, it will be the newest addition to the region's largest industrial and transportation complex.
