Low-key suburb on Mobile's southern end
The Muddy Creek community, also known as Theodore, is a low-key, comparatively affordable suburb situated on the southern edge of the City of Mobile. Dan Otto, Parks Superintendent with Mobile Parks and Recreation, says, “Although Google labels this area Muddy Creek, residents here say they live in Theodore. And although it’s known not known as Muddy Creek, it is known a one of the city’s more recently annexed areas. Its residents are one of the larger voting blocks that allowed the City of Mobile to expand.” Homes here are close to protected wetlands, and within a short drive of fishing spots, casual dining and the Mobile Regional Airport.
Suburban roads lined with single-family homes
Streetscapes throughout the Muddy Creek area of Theodore are mostly lined with single-level homes with a mix of brick and siding. Well-maintained, fairly sizable lots feature roomy front and back yards that are often fenced for sheds or pets. More contemporary homes with vaulted ceilings and vertical siding, as well as Prairie styles with dormers and long porches, add variety to the home stock. Pricing averages between $150,000 and $200,000 for a three-bedroom brick ranch style built in 2007, but you can also find smaller homes built in the 1980s for around $70,000.
Many homes in Muddy Creek are small, Ranch Style designs.
There are also a handful of Prairie Style homes as well in Muddy Creek.
Muddy Creek homes generally have one story, brick builds.

Heroes Park and nearby natural amenities
Heroes Park is the neighborhood’s central green space. Says Otto, “Heroes is a nice community park, with two ballfields, a playground and a walking trail. The fields are sporadically used by local youth groups for practices and games.” The 200-acre Muddy Creek Wetlands Management Area serves as a natural buffer where Muddy Creek leads south to Fowl River. This protected retreat offers a 2.3-mile interpretive trail meandering through wooded and wetland habitats and along a boardwalk. Resident anglers can cast a line nearby in Deer River, which juts into the center of the adjacent Theodore Industrial Park. Racing fans can head 6 miles west to the Mobile International Speedway.
Canton Bay Fishing Charters also has sunset charters for Muddy Creek residents.
