The picture of Mobile charm
Parkhill is highly desired for its stately mansions and charming, walkable streets 7 miles from downtown. “This is probably the most expensive neighborhood in Mobile because of the variety of beautiful homes and proximity to the Country Club of Mobile,” says Chris Clarke, Realtor for 25 years with Robert Brothers Inc., born and raised in Mobile. The Village of Spring Hill is the most sought-after enclave of Parkhill. “People can walk anywhere in Spring Hill on sidewalks decorated with benches and planters,” says Clarke. “The homes give a unique atmosphere, with million-dollar estates next to $300,000 bungalows.” Each of the historic and custom-built homes has their own personality, with long front drives framed by majestic live oaks and generous green space. Residents are close to downtown but have a short drive to manicured golf courses, extensive tennis facilities, and the vibrant Mobile Botanical Gardens. Coffee shops and Cocktail bars are around the corner, and a date night downtown is just a few miles away. People in Parkhill experience the best of Mobile’s Southern charm, whether in a mansion or a cozy cottage.

Elegant mansions and breezy bungalows
Parkhill has a mixture of stately mansions and modest ranch-style, but everything in this desired location sells quickly. “We’re seeing million-dollar homes get multiple offers as soon as they go on the market because this is where everyone in Mobile wants to settle down,” says Clarke. Enchanting live oaks and tall pines give the neighborhood a pleasant shade and quintessential Mobile charm. The elegant estates in Spring Hill are meticulously crafted with ornate architectural details. They start as high as $3.4 million for a 10,000-square-foot brick Colonial Revival with a grand front drive, a ballroom for hosting seasonal galas, and a spacious patio and pool. Someone could also find a 6,000-square-foot French Chateau-inspired estate with expansive landscaping offering ample privacy. Spring Hill is known for these estates, but someone could find a three-bedroom French-inspired home for around $500,000 just a few streets over. Less expensive homes with the same charming streetscape can be found in Country Club Village, such as a three-bedroom ranch-style with a spacious front lawn for about $215,000.

Those not interested in joining a club can play nearby at Azalea City Golf Course. Tennis players join matches and tournaments at the Mobile Tennis Center, which has 60 courts, making it one of the world’s largest public tennis facilities. Residents love to stop and smell the flowers at Mobile Botanical Gardens, which has paths through over 100 acres of vibrant native gardens and forest preserves. Mobile Botanical Gardens has the largest collection of native plants and one of the largest collections of Azaleas on the Gulf Coast. Folks also have a short drive to Langan Park, which has green spaces and a playground around a tranquil lake.

Mobile Museum of Art and Spring Hill shopping
Residents spend a relaxing day admiring the exhibits and installations at the Mobile Museum of Art, which is less than a mile from many homes. After taking in the beautiful works, folks make the short trip on Old Shell Road for dinner at Abba’s Mediterranean Café. They cap off the night with libations from POST of the Hill, a cocktail bar inside an early-1900s prairie-style home. Residents join their neighbors in the morning for conversation and caffeine at Carpe Diem Coffee & Tea Company. Folks find convenient shopping at the Spring Hill Village Shops, where they get fresh produce at Rouses Market and indulge their sweet tooth at Crumbl Cookies. America’s first Mardi Gras
Most people would identify Mardi Gras with New Orleans, but America’s first Mardi Gras festival was held in Mobile. “Mobile has a unique culture, and we take great pride in our Mardi Gras traditions,” says Clarke. The first two weeks of February are full parades and parties leading to the big festival. The city effectively shuts down and gets covered in purple, green and gold.
