A small neighborhood with a wide appeal
With apartments and townhouses that are within walking distance of South Alabama University and well-kept ranch-style homes beside the university’s hospital, Richelieu’s a neighborhood with wide appeal. And residents are certainly doing their part to ensure the community keeps its charm. “It’s an established neighborhood with tons of oak trees and beautiful landscaping, and every home is well-maintained,” says Stephany Hernandez, a Realtor with Wellhouse who has been selling homes in the Mobile area for over 5 years. “I’ve helped several families move into that area, and they’ve all been very excited about it.” Fun events at the Hillsdale Community Center help keep families there, while others simply enjoy the diversity of eating options along Airport Boulevard or the rigorous academic programs offered at W. P. Davidson High School.

A neighborhood that commands a red-brick eminence
Single family homes are most common south of Twelvemile Creek. “A lot of them were built in the ‘60s and ‘70s and have a retro vibe to them, being brick ranch-style homes with carports,” Hernandez says. At the same time, Hernandez notes that these homes are anything but outdated. “Many of these homes are being purchased, renovated and brought up to a modern style, interior and exterior.” Lawns are immaculately kept, sometimes adorned by flowering trees and gardens which can be easily admired by pedestrians thanks to abundant sidewalks. Closer to the university campus, there are townhouse-style apartments and detached condos. Ranch-style homes tend to sell for between $225,000 and $250,000. Townhouses span around 1,250 square feet and often sell somewhere in the $100,000s, while condos offer a bit more space and sell in the higher end of this price range.
