W.P. Davidson's specialized academies and International Thespian Society

Served by the Mobile County Schools District, local students attend O’Rourke Elementary School, Burns Middle School and W.P. Davidson High School. The elementary school received a B on Niche, and the middle school earned a C. O’Rourke offers a robotics team, an archery club and holds an annual holiday toy drive. Dining and shopping at Schillinger Square

Shopping and dining can be found along Cottage Hill and Schillinger roads, which border the neighborhood. At Schillinger Square, residents will find Walgreens, an Alabama Credit Union, CLUB4 Fitness and Mob Boss Pizzeria, a specially themed restaurant offering pies like “The Original Gangster,” wings and pasta. Fuel up in the morning at the shopping strip at Yellowhammer Coffee and enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine at El Giro Mexican. For groceries and essentials, hop over to the Shops on Schillinger, just a 2-mile drive up Schillinger Road, which offers ALDI, Rouse’s Market, Target and Kohl’s. While there, chow down at Sonny’s BBQ, which serves up Southern, slow-smoked brisket, ribs and other unique dishes like BBQ Pork Egg Rolls. There are also sweet treats at the Marble Slab Creamery. The Mobile Flea Market is also a quick 4-mile drive up Schillinger Road. Catch a flick at the neighborhood’s Nexus Cinema Dining, and enjoy barbecue chicken sliders, onion rings and a milkshake.

Fish the Second Creek

With the branching Second Creek flowing through the neighborhood, residents can enjoy fishing for smallmouth bass and other fish. At nearby West Mobile County Park, play a round of disc golf, let the kids play or catch a game on one of the 40-acre park’s eight ballfields. The park is also home to the Blackhawk Youth League, which offers soccer, flag football and cheerleading. West Mobile County Park also offers an adult co-ed softball league and regional baseball tournaments. While there, visitors can lace up their hiking boots and hit the Glenn Sebastian Nature Trail, which offers 3 miles of trails winding through 95 acres of pine and oak woodlands. Or residents can hop over to the neighboring Sheldon community to have some fun at Get Air Trampoline Park.

Second Creek is also only 4 miles from the Hancock Whitney Stadium, where residents can cheer on the University of South Alabama Jaguars football team.

Close to Mobile Regional Airport and Providence Hospital

Schillinger Road gives residents convenient access to shopping, dining and the Mobile Regional Airport, only 3 miles away. USA Health Providence Hospital is 3 miles away via Route 37, and the neighborhood is only 17 miles from downtown Mobile via Interstate 65.
