Shady streets and spacious lawns 8 miles from downtown

Skyland Park is known for its shady streets and well-built homes, where commuters come for a relaxing suburban atmosphere 8 miles from downtown. "People come here for the quintessential Mobile suburb look, with majestic live oaks and large, secluded lawns," says Hanna Rudzinsky, Realtor for 4 years in Mobile with PropTek LLC. Residents enjoy the charming atmosphere while taking an evening stroll on the sidewalk in front of spacious, grassy lawns. Most of the neighborhood is well-established with 1960s homes, but there are a few newer streets. The ranch-styles and Colonial Revivals range from $250,000 to $450,000. Students attend Mobile County Schools, which receive a B-minus overall from Niche. Outdoor activity spaces are tucked into the suburbs, like the Stotts Park basketball court and the playground at Skyland Park, which shares the neighborhood's name. Skyland Park is a residential community, but shopping can be found about a mile from most homes at Walmart Neighborhood Market or Greer's. Folks also have a short trip to neighborhood hangouts like Judy's Place.

1960s homes on large tree-covered lots

"Homes in Skyland Park are nice, but people come here for the large lots and big trees that give great privacy," says Rudzinsky. Homes sit on larger lots than most Mobile suburbs, with many on about half an acre and larger cul-de-sac lots being an acre or more. The neighborhood has well-established streets of 1960s homes, with a few newer builds mixed in. Homes range from $250,000 for a four-bedroom ranch-style to a $450,000 stately Colonial Revival with a wrap-around driveway leading to an entry framed by tall columns. Newer Craftsman-inspired homes range from a cozy three-bedroom for $275,000 to a spacious five-bedroom for $450,000 with a wrap-around porch in front of large, contemporary windows.
