Quiet riverside living in West Mobile
Venetia is a quiet riverside community near downtown Mobile and its amenities. “The location is great with Dog River Park being the keystone of the neighborhood,” says Realtor Fannie Wilson who has lived in the area since 1959 and sold homes for 16 years. “You can be downtown in six minutes, you can be at those newer malls up north in six minutes, nothing is over 10 minutes away.” Realtor Aleta Boudreaux, who has sold homes for over 40 years with Azalea Real Estate Agency, agrees. “It feels private because it’s at the headwaters of the Dog River, but it’s close to the highway so there’s that convenience,” Boudreaux says. Many residents work at the Brookley Aeroplex, less than 1 mile outside the neighborhood, or the downtown waterfront industrial area.
Venetia is more than a neighborhood, it’s a lifestyle close to the bay.

Dog River and Park provide outdoor activities
Dog River Park is busiest on the weekends, and the biggest draw is the river. The park has a boat launch onto the river and plenty of onshore spots to fish. “I know some avid fishermen and they’ll tell you it’s some of the best fishing in the area,” Wilson says. There is also a playground and a ball field. Close by is PFC Howard Johnson II Park, which is home to a pair of baseball fields. The park also features large paved and unpaved walking paths as well as playground equipment for children. The Mobile County Soccer Complex is home to many local youth and adult league soccer matches.

Ranch styles dominate Venetia's housing market
Most homes in Venetia are ranch-style builds with prices ranging from $125,000 to $375,000, depending on their size and how close they are to the river. Some homes rest on quiet, narrow roads where the only traffic is residential, and others are close to Interstate 10 and may experience some noise. Long driveways place the homes on busier streets away from the hectic traffic. Sidewalks are not prevalent in the area, but large yards allow for entertainment and recreation. Venetia residents know to prepare for hurricane season. The threat of storm surge on the Dog River puts Venetia at risk for flooding, and some houses were built on pillar foundations to prevent water damage.
