The village of Monee, founded in 1853, is a close community with a small-town feel. Additionally, the Monee Reservoir is home to a 2-mile trail that winds under tall trees and past serene ponds, where locals can be found hiking, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. Bordering Monee Reservoir to the east is Raccoon Grove Nature Preserve, home to 213 acres of protected woodlands, prairies and wetlands. The preserve is a great spot for birdwatching, with over 80 feathered species to look out for among the maples, oaks and hickories. Small parks are also available nearby, such as Sunrise Park, which features a playground.

Public education in Monee
Crete-Monee Community Unit School District No. 201-U serves the Monee community and is in the top 25% for best athletic school districts in the state, according to Niche. Students can begin their education at Monee Elementary and Crete-Monee Middle Schools, which both earn C grades on Niche. Teens may then attend Crete-Monee High School, which scores a C-plus and offers a large selection of unique course offering, including engineering design, metalworking, show choir, symphonic band and construction math.

I-57 and Illinois Route 50 are the main roads in and out of Monee.
