A small residential development in Monroe in the Sky Valley
The Farm at Woods Creek, also known as "The Farm," is a small residential development in Monroe, a city of about 20,000. "There used to be a farm there, and like so many, the land was redeveloped. It has nice, large homes," says Melody Dazey, economic development and tourism manager for the Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce. The setting is the Skykomish River Valley, otherwise known as Sky Valley, and named after the Skykomish tribe, area inhabitants for thousands of years. The valley environment includes scenic views of the Cascade Mountains and access to evergreen forests, hiking trails and other outdoor amenities.

Monroe has a historic downtown and suburban-style retail
It's about 2 miles from The Farm to the center of Monroe. "Historical Main Street downtown has cute little restaurants and shops," Dazey says. Diverse businesses have opened in recent years, such as Swagath International Foods, which specializes in Indian goods. Different types of cuisines are available, including Mexican, Italian and Korean.
Though locally owned shops are the focus downtown, there are also retail areas with big-box stores and chains like Fred Meyer and Walmart. "There's been a lot of development in the last few years," says Mike Kuhlman, a broker and the owner of Kuhlman Properties. Cranes on Main is an arcade and family fun zone, and Jump, Rattle & Roll amusement center is another place families enjoy. Movie-goers frequent Galaxy Theaters Monroe and the Wagner Performing Arts Center puts on musicals and concerts.
