A community steeped in history
South Hull is steeped in history and surrounded by a tight-knit community that seeks to preserve it. This small residential neighborhood began growing during the 1940s to house military members serving in the area. Since then, organizations like the South Hull Historical District Association have fought for the neighborhood to gain recognition as a historic district. The association brings residents together through numerous annual events, including Christmas parties and Mardi Gras parades. Though a sense of community is strong here, there are other reasons this neighborhood is attractive to prospective homebuyers. “The neighborhood is a great place to invest, and the market is healthy,” says Keithan Jones, a qualifying broker at Silver Oak Realty. “The taxes are very affordable here compared to many other places.”

Historic homes with varied architecture
South Hull housing styles reflect the World War II era in which many were built. Construction began in 1940s to accommodate families living at nearby Maxwell Air Force Base, but some options date back even further. “The neighborhood has historic homes from the 1800s,” says Jones. “Some have been renovated, but a lot are still standing.” The neighborhood has a variety of architectural styles ranging from traditional Cape Cods and gable-roofed ranchers to classic Colonial Revivals. Although there are no sidewalks, children can play in the large, grassy lawns found throughout South Hull. Housing prices begin at $80,000, with newly renovated residences topping out at $200,000.
