New Jersey suburban living
Situated in the northernmost section of Montville Township is Pine Brook, a census-designated community known for offering its residents suburban comfort with convenience. Like many other North Jersey communities, Pine Brook offers easy commutes to New York City. Here, properties like custom-built mansions and older split-levels occupy half-acre lots, giving residents plenty of space for backyard gatherings. Locals often come together for community events like their three-day Fourth of July bash or for weekly youth soccer games at the nearby Montville Community Park. After a day spent outside, young and old alike can pile into the booths of locally owned establishments like Montville Diner to enjoy a meal with friends. Adding to Pine Brook's appeal are the highly rated Montville Township Public Schools and its major thoroughfares, which keep residents connected to neighboring communities.
Custom-built homes, split-levels and more
Single-family residences here typically sit pushed back from the sidewalk-lined streets, giving residents plenty of space to cultivate decorative shrubs and small gardens. Some properties are even situated on slightly hilly lots that abut wooded areas. Housing options in Pine Brook range from apartments to classic midcentury split-levels to large custom-built colonial-inspired homes. Listing prices typically range from about $350,000 for a smaller, single-story property to $1.8 million for a spacious, custom-built home. Compared to some adjacent communities like Kinnelon, where most residents have septic sewers, "Montville is more coveted because it has city sewers," says Edwin Kalinka, a broker with Keller Williams Realty Metropolitan who has experience in the area.
Pine Brook boasts a charming mix of newer and older homes, blending tradition with modernity.

A-rated public and private schooling options
Children can enroll in the Montville Township Public Schools like Hilldale Elementary. Some students take advantage of the Montville Extended Day Learning Center, which provides structured after-school care until 6 p.m. They then head to Robert R. Lazar Middle, where students have the opportunity to engage in various extracurriculars, including Jazz Club and Microscope Club. Afterward, most students attend Montville Township High School, where they can join the International Concerns Club or work on The Muse — the school's literary magazine. Those who prefer private options appreciate that Pine Brook is home to Trinity Christian School, which serves students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Niche ranks it as the state's No. 7 Christian high school. All of these schools receive A ratings from Niche.

NJ Transit linking Pine Brook residents to seamless transportation options.
Proximity to NYC, commutes and more
Locals can take NJ Transit buses 29, 874 and 79 to get to New York City. They'll need at least one transfer — often to a train — before they reach Penn Station. This journey typically takes anywhere from an hour to just over two, depending on the route. Those who prefer driving can hop on state Route 3 for about 25 miles to 35 miles, depending on where they work in the city. Some people may work closer to the community at employers like St. Clare's Denville Hospital and Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, both of which are less than a 10-mile drive away. For other commutes, residents here enjoy easy access to many major thoroughfares: Interstate 287, U.S. Route 202, U.S. Route 46 and Interstate 80. They can take I-80 for about 25 miles to the Newark Liberty International Airport.
Montville Community Park and more
For some time outside, locals can head to Manchester Park to explore the densely wooded areas surrounding the ball field. Or, they can spend the day at Montville Community Park, where parents grab their foldable chairs and head to the field to watch their children play soccer. Some people even visit the park to cultivate homegrown goods in the community garden. "One of the advantages of living in Morris County is being able to get a county golf card," says Kalinka. The card reduces fees for any of the county's public courses, including the 18-hole Pinch Brook Golf Course, but the semi-private par 70 Knoll Golf Club West is the closest option to the community.

Kalinka recommends Tavern 73, one of the community's newer establishments. Here, patrons can sit in sleek black booths to enjoy anything from flavorful burgers to classic shrimp po-boys. Also popular among many is the Montville Diner, whose pancake offerings and other breakfast fare have attracted locals for over two decades. At the nearby Wood Stack Pizza Kitchen, people meet up with friends to enjoy wood-fired offerings amid a rustic environment, while those craving dessert can enjoy ice cream at Seven Scoops, a family-owned shop in the community. People here can grab groceries at the nearby Super Foodtown location. Those wanting to pick their own produce can check out the locally owned Bader Farms during the summertime.

Fourth of July festivities and other annual events
When the Fourth of July rolls around, many Pine Brook residents check out Montville Township's annual three-day celebration. Festivalgoers can watch eating contests or get in line to enjoy some carnival rides. Adding to the lively environment is a classic car show and the Friday night fireworks display. One of the township's more unique events is the Annual Fishing Derby, where children head to Masar Pond to try to score the biggest catch of the day while spectators enjoy bagels and donut offerings. Other annual community events include a township-wide garage sale and an easter egg hunt.
