Butterfield has convenient freeway access and long-standing neighbors
Anchored by Butterfield Language Academy, this established neighborhood in Moreno Valley's east side is home to longtime residents who’ve gotten to know each other over the years. Natalie Brown, owner of This Piggy Flies Cookie Company and a resident for nearly 20 years, says her low mortgage and neighbors have kept her here. “The one thing about our neighbors is that we look out for each other,” she says. “Down my block, people always have their garage doors open, hanging out and chatting. If I get a package, I can call my neighbor and ask, ‘Hey, can you look out for my package?’ they know they can do the same.”
Butterfield has views of surrounding rocky hills and mountains.

Many locally owned restaurants in the area, but limited shopping
Butterfield is primarily residential, but close to local restaurants. “We have lots of little hole-in-the-wall places. I like going to Margaritas Grill, which is just up the street. It’s a mom-and-pop shop, and the food and service are always great,” Brown says. A Raising Canes restaurant is a new addition to the area, Brown says, and locals often head to other cities, like Riverside, for mall shopping. “We can do much better when it comes to shopping," she adds, "but we’re branching out." A few grocery stores are within a 2-mile radius, including Cardenas Markets and Smart & Final Extra on Alessandro Boulevard. Target and Walmart Supercenter are also near Eucalyptus Avenue.

Butterfield's earthquake risks
Moreno Valley sits along the San Jacinto Fault Zone, making earthquakes familiar to residents. “The [earthquakes] aren’t that bad. There’s probably one every two months, but I am used to them at this point,” Brown says. Standard homeowners' insurance policies generally do not cover earthquake damage, so residents may want to consider adding coverage.
