Ramblewood's park and mall access, divided by the Turnpike

Bisected by the busy Interstate 295 and New Jersey Turnpike, Ramblewood offers outdoor recreation on the east side and commercial action to the west. With both options available to them nearby, residents can spend the day at the Laurel Acres ballfield or Ramblewood golf course before grabbing essentials or dinner around the Moorestown Mall shopping area. “I raised three kids here, and they would all say that they had an amazing childhood,” says Dawn Hogan, a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Realty who lived in Ramblewood for 27 years. “They all played at the park and ate at their favorite local restaurant.” This Mount Laurel neighborhood is about 13 miles east of Philadelphia and 80 miles south of New York City. Interstate and Turnpike access make commutes into the surrounding cities more manageable, but Ramblewood attracts more than just commuters. “It’s an established neighborhood that’s not a new cookie-cutter development,” Hogan says. “There’s a wide range of ages there, from new families to the original owners that have been there since the 1970s.”

Laurel Acres Park and Ramblewood Country Club

Laurel Acres Park, located on Ramblewood’s east side, is the largest and most visited park in Mount Laurel. With more than 60 acres of green space, the park features athletic fields and courts, wooded walking trails, three playgrounds for different ages, a fishing lake and a dog run. “Baseball and soccer are big sports in Mount Laurel, and the fields at the park have won some awards,” Hogan adds. There are eight baseball diamonds, so Little League practices and game days allow for frequent gatherings at the park. When snow falls, the hill at Laurel Acres Park fills with sleds. In fact, so many people come to the park for sledding, Hogan says, that residents who live near the park can hardly drive down their road. In addition to sledding, Laurel Acres Park hosts seasonal events throughout the year, including a summer concert series and fall food truck festivals. Near Laurel Acres Park, the public Ramblewood Country Club features a 27-hole golf course. "Ron Jaworski, who used to be the Eagles quarterback, owns the country club,” Hogan says. “The bar inside is called Seven Tap, named after his jersey number." This tavern serves craft beers and elevated pub food, and the club is a popular spot for weddings and other events.

Big-name shopping around the Moorestown Mall

West Ramblewood is the neighborhood’s commercial sector, with retail establishments and restaurants surrounding the Moorestown Mall area. In addition to big-box department stores like Boscov's and Walmart, this district also has fitness studios, brewhouses, chain eateries and Cooper University Hospital. “They took away part of the mall to add the hospital,” Hogan says. “Eventually, it’ll probably be all hospital.” For Wegman’s or Costco grocery hauls, Centerton Square is another popular commercial section about 4 miles north on the interstate. There is a small shopping center at the entrance of the Ramblewood community with medical offices, banks, gas stations and restaurants. Cocina Azteca is a locally popular Mexican restaurant, and Boaggio’s Bread bakes sweet pastries and savory deli loaves. On the east side of Ramblewood, The Kettle & Grille is a laid-back diner that serves breakfast all day.

The Treehouses of Ramblewood is a condominium complex built in the early 1980s, offering units with one or two bedrooms. The Mews is another complex with one-, two-, and three-bedroom condos built in the mid-’80s. Parkway Elementary is within walking distance

Students can attend Parkway Elementary School, which receives a B-plus rating from Niche, for kindergarten through fourth grade. “Parkway Elementary is right on the main drag of Ramblewood Parkway,” Hogan says. “A lot of kids can walk to school.” Students can continue on to fifth and sixth grades at Mount Laurel Hartford School and seventh and eighth grades at T.E. Harrington Middle School, both of which also receive a B-plus. “They split the schools up in 2012 because studies showed that it’s not in the best interest for sixth graders to be with eighth graders,” says John Wuertz, Associate Broker with Berkshire Hathaway HomeStyles. Lenape High School holds an A-minus rating. On the south side of Ramblewood, The King’s Christian School is a private kindergarten through twelfth-grade school with an A-minus rating from Niche.

City commutes on I-295 and the NJ Turnpike

Interstate 295 and the New Jersey Turnpike run parallel to each other as they slice through the center of Ramblewood. Philadelphia International Airport is less than 25 miles away via the interstate. NJ Transit busses service the community, with several stops located on the west side throughout the commercial sector. There is no passenger train service in Ramblewood, but there are nearby stations that help to make commutes more efficient. “A lot of people drive to the Woodcrest station and take the PATCO train that goes right into City Hall in Philadelphia,” Wuertz says. “And some people drive to the Hamilton station on 295 and take the NJ Transit express train into New York City,” referring to the train station located about 30 miles north of the neighborhood.
