Small town with an easy commute
Mt. Morris brings the small-town Mid-Michigan lifestyle within a comfortable commuting distance of downtown Flint. “Mt. Morris is definitely coming back and gaining some traction,” says Allan Hobson, a Realtor with RE/MAX Edge. The single-stoplight city offers competitive home prices, rural recreation and a few local restaurants. Mt. Morris is bordered on the east by C.S. Mott Lake, which provides access to swimming and beaches in the summer. There is a strip on North Genesee Road with local shops and eateries. There is a good deal of undeveloped land available in the area, and proximity to major highways makes the commute to nearby areas easy.
Ranch-style homes prevail
“Most of the houses, about 80% of them, are going ranch-style or two-story,” Hobson says. “But there are typically more houses available here than in surrounding areas like Clio. There’s a lot more inventory, and it’s a little bit more affordable and acquirable.” The average price of homes in Mt. Morris is between $120,000 and $130,000, though you can find homes in the countryside for up to $230,000. In terms of home pricing, Mt. Morris tends to be in between Beecher to the south and Clio to the north. Even downtown Mt. Morris has a more suburban feel, and the residential streets quickly give way to Pure Michigan farmland.

Batterbee Park and Kid's Kingdom
The cornerstone of outdoor play for children in Mt. Morris is Ronald F. Batterbee Memorial Park. It’s home to Kid’s Kingdom, a towering wooden playground. Huckleberry Junction Playhouse Theater is an eclectic indoor amusement park with arcade games and singing animatronic animals. The spot has become a popular place for youth team events and birthday parties. Young-at-heart residents with high-octane recreational vehicles can explore The Mounds ORV Park, an off-road wonderland full of rocky terrain and wooded trails to make for mud-covered memories. Locals looking to tee it up hit Beechwood Greens Golf Course. “My friend’s father actually owns the course,” Hobson says. “It’s a 9-hole course, so a little smaller than others, but definitely a popular and affordable course in the area.”

Los Cabos and more
While Mt. Morris isn’t known for having a crowded restaurant scene, there are a few local spots you’ll want to try. Los Cabos Grill and Bar serves up generously sized fajitas and pretty much any other Mexican cuisine Mt. Morris residents crave. Local watering holes, like Down The Hatch North Bar and Grill and Oasis Restaurant and Bar, offer that classic, laid-back bar vibe along with American comfort food and drinks. There is a Kroger located off North Saginaw, making it easy to pick up groceries for the week ahead. Bray Road Diner has specials up on a chalkboard and an old-school feel to its menu.
