Enticing coastal and Southern charm is the essence of I’On’s identity. You’re within walking distance of peaceful outdoor spaces from virtually every corner of this neighborhood. “It’s more reminiscent of downtown Charleston,” says Ariel Trouche, Realtor with Carolina One Real Estate. “Along with the home styles, there are two lakes in I’On similar to Colonial Lake on the peninsula, and there’s a network of walking trails.”

The layout and design of I’On make it easy to get to know your neighbors. The streets are jam-packed with Charleston-style homes with triple-decker porches, Lowcountry-style properties and custom builds sitting on compact lots below a quarter acre. The slight separation between the houses is usually filled with lush greenery, including Palmetto palms, large oaks and shrubbery. Many buyers seek out the homes overlooking lakes and ponds dotted throughout the area. Buyers hoping to snatch up one of the stately homes within this desirable community will see price points ranging from $2 to $5 million.

The neighborhood was designed in the 1990s with the idea of having nearly everything you would need just steps from your front door. Before even reaching the residential streets, you’ll be greeted at I’On’s entrance by an endearing quasi-downtown district with restaurants, a dentist’s office, salons and a quaint bed and breakfast. Snack on nachos and sliders at O’Brion’s Pub & Grille, where you can sit outside under the patio’s twinkling lights or pull up a stool to the bar inside to catch a game. Each meal at The Shellmore is a surprise because the menu at the intimate and inviting eatery changes daily. The Square Onion rounds out the neighborhood’s dining scene and is the go-to place for quicker options like sandwiches, soups and salads to pick up and take home

.

Sitting less than a mile from the neighborhood’s main entrance, ALDI provides the most convenient spot for weekly grocery runs. There’s also a Publix less than 1.5 miles outside I’On.

Residents relish being able to stroll along one of the six trails lining different areas of the neighborhood, offering views of waterways and the Rookery Wildlife Refuge. The I’On Club also gives you access to swimming pools, clay tennis courts and fitness facilities. A popular community gathering hub sits at the north end of the neighborhood, the Mount Pleasant Amphitheater, where you’re able to join friends and family for outdoor concerts, movie nights and holiday festivals.

Events and community organizations are a point of pride among locals here. The business association hosts a bike race every year. There’s even an arts council for the neighborhood, the Community of I’On Artists, which presents art shows and workshops to residents. You also have the ability to join I’Onissimo! – a group of string, woodwind and brass musicians hosting classes and group performances throughout the year.

Students attend James Edwards Elementary School, which offers a partial magnet program focusing on global leadership. They finish their secondary education at Moultrie Middle School and Lucy Beckham High School. The middle school has an A rating from Niche, while the recently built high school is known for being the only one in the state to offer veterinary science courses.

Buyers often turn to the timeless and inviting suburb of I’On to escape from Mount Pleasant’s urban environment.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
