About Mount Plymouth, FL

Unincorporated community in rural East Lake County

a. Mount Plymouth may be a growing suburban community today, but during the 1920s, this sleepy little town was a favorite vacation spot for big-name celebrities and other notable figures. Originally built around a premier golf resort, Mount Plymouth remains known for its natural beauty. Tree-covered nature trails connect the quiet cul-de-sac communities to breathtaking parks and peaceful neighborhood lakes. Mount Plymouth resides in an unincorporated part of rural East Lake County, just 45 minutes from Downtown Orlando. As a ‘census-designated’ place, Mount Plymouth residents “can work in Downtown Orlando without having to pay the expensive city taxes,” says Lisa DuRant, a longtime resident and local real estate agent with Dave Lowe Realty.

Historic storybook cottages and modern ranch homes

A small handful of enchanting “storybook homes” date back to the early 1920s along the northeast side of Mount Plymouth Road. These one-of-a-kind cabins feature architecture reminiscent of Rapunzel’s cottage at the nearby Disney World. Despite being a cherished part of the community, most of Mount Plymouth’s original storybook homes were replaced by modern subdivisions developed between the 1980s and early 2000s. Craftsman bungalows with cross-gamble roofs and sprawling ranch-style homes are neatly organized in tree-shaded cul-de-sacs. Along the sidewalk-lined streets, many residences sit far from the road on quarter-to-half-acre beach grass lawns. Most three-bedroom homes in Mount Plymouth list between $250,000 and $450,000. Commercial developers and those looking to build their own house can find multi-acre wooded lots starting at $50,000.

This growing school partners with the YMCA of Central Florida to provide students with free and engaging after-school programs. In 2006, the city of Mount Dora spent over $26 million on a new high school campus, located just two minutes away from the middle school. New traffic patterns on County Road 46

Mount Plymouth’s recent residential growth has led to “an uptake in traffic on County Road 46,” Durant says. While she says it’s nothing like city traffic, Durant explains, “We used to be able to drive down 46 without seeing a single car, but nowadays, you might see 15 cars backed up at the nearest light.” From this major thoroughfare, residents can hop on Highway 441 and access the top-rated medical facilities at AdventHealth Waterman. County Road 46 intersects with the busy SR 429 in the northeast corner of Mount Plymouth.

Explore miles of rural beauty on the new Neighborhood Lakes Trail

Neighborhood kids ride bikes to the small tree-shaded playground at Mount Plymouth Park. Residents have direct access to the new Neighborhood Lakes Trail & Trailhead at the northeast corner of Mount Plymouth. Winding through miles of rural farmlands, “the trail will eventually connect to all the trailheads in Lake County and the East Lake Sports and Community Complex,” Durant says. At the athletic complex, young athletes learn how to dribble down the soccer field and cheer for the local youth football team. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore more hiking trails at the Lake Lucie Conservation Area or swim with manatees at Wekiwa Springs State Park.
