A riverside suburbia on the west side of Muncie
In many respects, Meadow Park is a classic American suburb: homes built in the latter half of the 20th century, ranch-style and split-level builds, and proximity to Muncie, located 3.5 miles to the east. Yet, with the White River flowing to the south and the White River Greenway Trail that parallels it running directly to Westside Park, residents can enjoy and engage with nature if they so choose. However, the neighborhood is not secluded, as retail and dining are available within a mile. Here, there is a healthy balance of convenience and tranquility, according to resident and local artist Laurie Lunsford. "I live near places I can walk and bike to with my art supplies," she says. "During COVID, my art kept me sane. I went to the park and painted with people. I am a gardener, and I feel free to create in my yard and share garden knowledge with others. There is definitely a community spirit here." A former teacher, Lunsford stays active in the community by hanging out in her garden and the park and getting involved in projects like the painting of the neighborhood’s electrical boxes on its street corners.
Ranch-style and split-level homes
Meadow Park was developed in the mid to late 20th century; its architecture is representative of the times with ranch-style, midcentury modern and split-level homes. It's a classic '70s-style suburbia with homes on large front yards, some shaded by mature growth and others accented with decorative trees. Sidewalks run through parts of the neighborhood but not throughout. The average home value here is about $50,000 more than the average for the Muncie metro area, and the neighborhood’s home values mainly range from $100,000 to $300,000. While there are rental options, the neighborhood is predominantly homeowners.

Walk or bike the White River Greenway to Westside Park
Directly south of the neighborhood, the White River Greenway's paved path runs a mile and a half along the river and through trees to Westside Park. The park contains a baseball diamond, basketball courts and playgrounds, but visitors value it just as much for its views of the river and shady spots to relax.
