Small town with job opportunities and relatively low cost of living
Resting alongside the Interstate 80 and 81 economic corridor, less than 10 miles south of Wilkes-Barre, is the suburban Nanticoke community. “We have just had an influx of big industrial parks, so people really come for the warehouse jobs,” says Terry August, who has sold homes in Nanticoke and surrounding areas for 25 years, currently at Antonik & Associates. Industrial jobs and positions at the Luzerne County Nanticoke Community College contribute to most career opportunities in the area. With job growth and relatively affordable housing costs, Nanticoke serves as a calm refuge from bigger, busier and pricier surrounding areas. The city also offers mountain views with proximity to nature and parks, as it is cradled by the Susquehanna River. Nanticoke features a town square lined with small businesses, but big-name retailers in the area also provide city-like convenience.
Susquehanna River provides outdoor adventures
Nanticoke residents can enjoy many different outdoor activities on and around the Susquehanna River, including fishing, kayaking, biking and walking on hiking trails and footpaths. “You can find hiking and biking galore in Nanticoke and surrounding areas,” August says. Canal Park renders access to the river and Susquehanna Warrior Trail. The Newport Township Wanamie Recreation Area offers athletic courts and a playground. West Side Park features similar amenities and includes a field and green space. The Nanticoke Town Square provides a place to gather or relax at tables and on plots of grass.

Easy access to Scranton, Wilkes-Barre and beyond
Residents that do not work locally can hop on nearby Interstate 81 to busier regions, such as Scranton, Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre. While the community has no rail system, the Luzerne County Transportation Authority provides public buses in Nanticoke and surrounding areas. The Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport is about 19 miles north, but quick access to I-81 makes the commute relatively quick despite the distance.
Nanticoke’s head start into coal mining
A local man stumbled upon coal in Nanticoke in the early 1800s. Because of his discovery, the western banks of the Susquehanna River and Wyoming Valley became bigwigs in the coal mining industry boom of the 19th and 20th centuries. Nanticoke was also one of the firsts to break into the underground mining industry. Because of this history, the area’s water quality is sometimes substandard.

Early in my career obtained an Associate Broker license status and currently hold Broker licenses in Florida and Pennsylvania. In addition, I hold a Broker Appraiser license in PA. Further education includes being a Graduate of the Realtor Institute (GRI), Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) and I am also an Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR).

“Assisting people – it’s the one-on-one interaction, the problem solving, and the listening and learning. It all makes for a very exciting and engaging career.”
When I am not representing buyers and sellers in Broward, Dade, and Palm Beach counties, I am busy with real estate-related community efforts. I formerly served on a committee that developed new zoning ordinances to protect the environment from overdevelopment and currently serve on the board for non-profit organization. I also try to find the "balance" by enjoying the beautiful beaches, yoga, golf, pickleball, biking or just strolling along the dock.
I hope I have the opportunity to meet you and assist in your relocation or repositioning to the tri-county area.
