Residential cul-de-sacs north of Nashua's bustling Main Street
Considered a quiet part of the greater Nashua area, Northeast Nashua is a small residential neighborhood flanked by a series of small ponds and the Everett Turnpike. Cul-de-sacs sit between mature forests on slow-moving streets, where Colonial Revivals and other large family homes are commonplace. "Along the Merrimack River are the older homes because, back in the day, transportation was by boat," says Stephanie Kane, Realtor and broker with Kane Realty Group, LLC. "Nashua is interesting in that Main Street kind of runs parallel with the Merrimack River. So, everything between Main Street and the river tends to have older homes built on the street." One of the largest in the area, the river stretches all the way south into Massachusetts. Along with the railroad, the river was a major source of transportation in New England before the invention of the car, leading passengers into the city. Nashua’s Main Street is only 2 miles south, where modern restaurants and shops reside within historic buildings above the waters of the Nashua River.
Stately colonials and manicured lawns in Northeast Nashua
Northeast Nashua’s residential roads lead to cul-de-sacs with a variety of modern and historic homes, including flat-facade Colonials and large split levels. "We have typical New England-style homes all around Nashua. A typical four-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath with a two-car garage is still the most popular type of home that people want," Kane says. Backyards often have private pools and are sheltered by mature trees that lend a sense of privacy. Large garages, finished basements and two-story residences create a neighborhood that is popular among big families who need more space. These homes often cost between $450,000 and $700,000, with a few homes on Preserve Drive that can run from $800,000 up to nearly $1 million. A series of attached and detached condos are in communities near Ferry and Ayer Roads. These units can include up to three bedrooms and often cost between $350,000 and $550,000. East of Concord Street is a series of more compact single-story homes, as well as a few two-story Colonial Revivals, that are slightly more affordable, with prices ranging from $350,000 to $600,000.
