Located west of Main Street, South End Nashua has a suburban atmosphere with a mix of single-family and multi-family homes. With several parks and places to fish, hike, or spend a day outside playing sports, families can live near outdoor and indoor attractions. They can also live within walking or biking distance of the Fairgrounds Elementary and Fairgrounds Middle schools, which are located off of Cleveland Street near the area’s public pool. "Living here is great for commuting; people from Manchester and Massachusetts want to live here because it's cheaper than Manchester, and you get no sales tax in New Hampshire," says Thomas McPherson with RE/MAX who has lived in the area for over 25 years. Visitors and locals alike can drive on nearby Interstate 293, which will take them from Manchester through Nashua and down to Massachusetts.
Local and chain restaurants nearby
When it comes to dining out, there are over a dozen local restaurants in and around South End Nashua. There are little spots like Hayward Ice Cream that have been in business for decades, as well as classic breakfast and lunch places, including Roland’s Restaurant, Bud’s Restaurant and Pine Street Eatery. Down Hollis Street is Mary’s Mexican Restaurant and Bar as well as the El Ranchito Bar and Grill, both of which serve Mexican-inspired cuisine. Target, Trader Joe's and other chain stores are south down Daniel Webster Highway on the way to the Massachusetts border. "It's a popular spot to get all your shopping done," McPherson says. "People will come from Massachusetts to shop here because there is no sales tax." Down Nashua’s Main Street near the river are several bars and trendy shops, such as Mike’s Italian Kitchen and Surf Restaurant, which is known for its seafood. Desi Global Flavors is a local market with several Indian food staples and a vast selection of herbs and spices. There are also a few butchers, smoke shops, bookstores, boutiques and coffee houses. Residents can grocery shop at Sally’s Food Market or Amanda’s Market, or head to Shaw’s on Main Street.

Summer Fun events and community gatherings
Summer Fun, which runs from March to August, is a celebration of free activities, including summer camps, live music performances, a 4th of July firework show and festivals. A walking club spends an hour every Friday walking the Nashua River Trail off Gilson Road. Nashua Parks and Recreation also hosts public trips to places like New York City and the Encore Boston Harbor Casino.

A majority of homes were built in the mid-20th century, with 1950s through 1970s ranch-styles and bungalows, as well as smaller Cape Cods and two-story flat-faced Colonial-inspired. South End Nashua falls into the Nashau School District, which is graded an overall B on Niche. Outdoor recreation and indoor shows and events
Though it feels like it is in the center of Nashua, South End has several outdoor parks, theaters, performance halls and indoor attractions. The Nashua Center for the Arts on Main Street hosts musicians, comedy shows and theatre performances. "It is very new to the area, but the venue is bringing in a lot of fun entertainment," McPherson says. The park at Sandy Pond has a few jungle gym structures and a splash pad for hot summer days. The Rotary Pool is a public pool for local residents and is located next to the elementary and middle schools. Fields Grove is a marshy wetland park with a few walking trails and a playground, as well as sports courts and picnic areas. Anglers enjoy fishing here, and bird watchers can catch sight of Great Blue Herons. For days indoors, the Nova Trampoline Park accommodates adults, children and even toddlers. Just outside the neighborhood, next to Rivier University, is Nashua Country Club, which has a pool, an 18-hole golf course and shares space with the Merrimack Valley Curling Club.

Commuting around Nashua and north to Manchester
Though most people tend to drive around town, the Nashua Transit System has several bus lines throughout South End Nashua. Those who take the bus can find stops along East Hollis Street, Main Street, Lake Street and Kinsley Avenue. For emergencies and checkups, Saint Joseph Hospital is right on Kinsley Street near the Lake Street Fire Station. Southern New Hampshire Medical Center is on Prospect Street near Genoa Healthcare and a few specialty clinics. For weekends away, drivers can take the Everett Turnpike about 17 miles up to the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, or head about 2 more miles north to reach downtown Manchester. Those who work in Boston can head down Route 3 for about 53 miles and reach the city in about an hour and 20 minutes depending on traffic, which can get congested.
Wetlands and possible flooding in South End
Though homes living in the center of South End, by the wetlands and the elementary and middle schools, those living along the highways and Kinsley Street may experience loud traffic noise. Homes sitting near Hassells Brook, or the waterways of Salmon Brook Main Street Pond, may experience some wetter conditions or even possible overflow during times of heavy rainfall.
