A Nashville suburb with distinctive charm
On the map, Goodlettsville looks as convenient to Nashville as other suburbs like Hendersonville or Green Hill. But for a Realtor like Tiffani Beuhring, who was brought to Goodlettsville by her mom when she was first born and has lived there in early childhood and adolescence, “it’s just home,” she says. “It has a charm all its own.” Maybe it’s the distinctive homes or mature, tree-lined streets. Maybe it’s the convenience of having shopping centers and restaurants nearby but in a separate area. For this Realtor, who has been in real estate sales for almost seven years with Elam Real Estate, Goodlettsville is a quiet and popular suburb that exudes hometown vibes.
More acreage, more privacy
Many of the homes in Goodlettsville sit on larger-than-normal lots and can sell for between $250,000 and $2 million. Unique styles can be found here, such as a barn-shaped bi-level house originally built in the 1970s, or a Greek Revival brick home with large white front columns. Because most of the neighborhood is rural, many houses sit on large acreages, which can create the illusion for visitors that they’ve stumbled upon a country farmhouse or estate. Here, deer and wild turkeys are often seen in backyards, and open spaces are often used for gardening. “The homes in Goodlettsville are not on top of each other,” Beuhring says. “This creates more privacy and makes each property feel more special.” While not as prevalent, new townhouses are also being built closer to the commercial centers but stil with enough green space to enjoy the view. They’re priced in the $300,000s.

Award-winning schools
The schools that serve the neighborhood include Goodlettsville Elementary, which received a C-plus from Niche. The architects who designed the bright, open, and lively elementary school were honored by the Tennessee School Boards Association for the building’s ease of use and aesthetic appeal. Goodlettsville Middle, a C-rated school, is one of only four International Baccalaureate middle schools in the Nashville School District. Goodlettsville Middle also uses technology in the classroom and is a partial recipient of a STEM grant that has helped the school focus more on the sciences. Hunters Lane High, which scored a C-minus, offers several academies to prepare students for college and careers. They include a freshman academy for 9th-grade students to help them plan their pathway through high school; a design and technology academy; a hospitality, marketing and business academy; and an IB, health and human services academy.

Where to get active
Cedar Hill Park on Old Hickory Boulevard features a large, two-story playscape where youngsters can dare each other to slide down the two high, twisty slides or straight slides in the structure. The park also offers picnic shelters, sports fields, more than 6 miles of mountain bike trails, a duck pond and open space — enough to make visitors feel like they’re nowhere near the city. In Peay Park to the north, residents not only have sizeable playground and sports fields, but also a children’s splash pad and a community center with a gymnasium and meeting rooms.

An area to dine in
For everyday needs, a Publix and Kroger can be found in the shopping area where Interstate 65 meets the Long Hollow Pike. Several restaurants populate this area, including Calabria Brickoven Pizzeria, an upscale eatery for a business lunch, date night, a family celebration or corporate event. Just north of there, Lagniappe Bayou Kitchen is a Southern-style restaurant with Cajun roots and a Texas flair. Founders Story and Kevin Craig grew up with both these influences and share their family memories with each dish they serve.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
