Multicultural Nashville neighborhood close to Percy Priest lake
A home likely won’t be the only bargain someone will find in the area of Percy Priest Meadows. This community is among a larger group of subdivisions in southeast Nashville that are within arm’s reach of one of the region’s outdoor gems, Percy Priest Lake. “It’s for people who enjoy living close to the lake and have a lower budget,” says Martin Hickman, a broker with Compass, who’s made a few sales in Southeast Nashville. With an average sale price that is about half of the entire Nashville area, Percy Priest Meadows is among the places in the city that has drawn first-time homebuyers. The 42-mile-long and 14,000-acre lake is often teeming with campers, anglers and boaters. “It’s really great. If you’re in Antioch, you’re really close to that. And just being on the lake, people tend to enjoy it,” Hickman says. Many like Hickman consider this area to be part of Antioch, which boasts one of the most multicultural communities in the city. The diversity is seen around Murfreesboro Pike, where a few stores offer accommodations for shoppers who hail from African, Middle Eastern and Hispanic cultures. Teens in Percy Priest Meadows can attend Antioch High School, where more than 36 languages are spoken. Maria Sanchez, an agent with Benchmark Realty LLC, who’s made several sales in this part of the city, says the area has attracted many refugees and immigrants who decided to put down their roots there. “It’s a melting pot of different people,” she says about one of the draws to the community. “There’s more culture there, so that could be one factor.”

A recreational haven in Percy Priest Lake
With the tree-lined shores of Percy Priest Lake a short distance to the north, many in the community can have weekend vacations in their own backyards. The lake has multiple marinas and the water attracts anyone from kayakers and paddle boarders to those who prefer sailing. Anglers will find a variety of fish, including catfish, trout and several types of bass. And campers can either stop at a campground or primitive site to spend the night. One of the most popular sites here is the Seven Points Campground, where visitors can park their recreational vehicles under a canopy of trees and take walks along the rocky beaches. Hikers can also go on the series of natural trails to explore the woodlands around the lake. Along the way, they’ll spot many pines and Bald Cypresses. Another attraction here, the Nashville Shores water park, is popular among the younger crowd.
Multicultural shopping and dining along Murfreesboro Pike
Several small grocery stores exist around Murfreesboro Pike, which runs just west of Percy Priest Meadows. The Saint George Market provides grocery items like meats and cereal, but also includes Arabic wording on its signs. Shoppers there, for example, can get grape leaves for dolma dishes. More groceries can be found up the road at La Familia Supermercado, and those looking for even more diverse options can continue to either the Ibex Minimart or Eko African & Caribbean Market and Restaurant. Ibex also sells some African-themed housewares. Good Times Street Food Taqueria serves Mexican fare with a bit of an American twist. Many also enjoy stopping by Fat Boys BBQ’s humble shack, where they can have plates of fried fish, ribs or chicken wings with sides like macaroni and cheese and pancakes. The two restaurants are next to the Arabic Supermarket. The store is hard to miss as it’s entirely painted with a scenery featuring produce, sliced meats and farm animals. A Publix farther south offers another grocery shopping option.
