Mt Nebo-Holtwood is a rural community situated along the Susquehanna River just south of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Mt Nebo-Holtwood offers residents peaceful living, top-rated schools and quick access to nearby cities.

“With the rolling hills and the river, the Mt Nebo area has some of the most beautiful countryside in the state,” says Darrell Coyle, Realtor with Charles & Associates Realty. “And a lot less development than further north in Lancaster County.”

On a cruise through Mt Nebo-Holtwood you’ll discover long, singular country roads that offshoot into residential clusters. Plenty of farmhouses and barns are tucked into cornfields and farmland on large swaths of land. In the residential pockets of the area, neat, curved roads are flanked by mature trees and homes with an array of architectural styles that include colonials, Cape Cods and split levels. These homes are set back on leafy lots that average a half-acre and provide ample space between neighbors. Lawns are well-tended, and most properties boast long, paved driveways. In Mt Nebo-Holtwood, you can get a four-bedroom Cape Cod for around $350,000 or a four-bedroom colonial for around $375,000.

Kids in Mt Nebo-Holtwood attend Martic Elementary School, Marticville Middle School and Penn Manor High School. These schools all belong to the Penn Manor School district, which receives an overall grade of A- from Niche, with particularly high ratings in the categories of academics, teachers and college prep. Penn Manor High has a variety of academic programs in fields such as agriculture, engineering, technology and world languages.

This area is rich in natural beauty and offers many opportunities for outdoor recreation. Head to Susquehannock State Park to immerse yourself in 224 acres of grandeur. Perched on a scenic plateau overlooking the Susquehanna River, this park is named for the Susquehannock people who originally lived in the area. Hike one of the 11 winding, wooded trails, fish by the river or camp overnight under the stars in this tranquil state park. Here, you’ll also find a playground, volleyball court and softball courts.

Pick up fresh, locally grown produce at Meck’s Produce on Beaver Valley Pike and local farm-fresh dairy products down the road at Maplehofe Dairy on Robert Fulton Highway. Small convenience stores stocked with the essentials can be found sprinkled throughout Mt Nebo-Holtwood. When you want a traditional supermarket, head to GIANT on Friendly Drive.

For dinner close to home, The Rawlinsville Brickhouse on Drytown Road is the place to go. Enjoy American fare like crab cakes and burgers with indoor and outdoor seating options in a causal atmosphere. For dessert, swing by Old Barn Creamery on Martic Heights Drive for hand-dipped ice cream in a range of 13 flavors.

For all your shopping needs, hop in the car and drive 13 miles north to the vibrant city of Lancaster. Here, you’ll find familiar stores like Walmart and Target, as well as smaller retailers, restaurants and entertainment options.

Proximity to several highways makes it easy to get where you need to go from Mt Nebo-Holtwood. Take Route 372 south to land in the heart of Baltimore, Maryland, in roughly an hour. A 70-mile drive east on Route 30 will get you to Philadelphia in an hour and a half.
