Bear, Delaware, is a place where residents seek a respite from Philadelphia. "You want to live in Bear if you want quiet living," says eXp Realty realtor Brianita Bishop. Up until the 1980s, the town was primarily made up of farms. Then, housing projects started to appear. Although corn stalks still extend from nearby farms now, the area has changed over the past 40 years from being predominantly rural. In Bear, most of the single-family homes are found in cul-de-sac neighborhoods.

Plenty of different housing styles
Many different types of houses are available, so buyers can choose between a larger, more spacious home with a large yard or a smaller, more compact one like a ranch or mobile home. But move fast and keep an eye out for everything. "Houses are rare on the market, but when they are, they go fast," according to Bishop. While a home in Bear costs between $211,000 and $573,000, some mobile homes can be purchased for less than $100,000. The CAP Index crime score is 4 out of 10, on par with the national average. According to Tiffanie Radomicki of Keller Williams Realty, there is an abundance of HOAs in the neighborhood. Regardless, she says Bear is a “great location.” Realtor Quattrociocchi adds that the housing draws many buyers to the area. "They are decent-sized homes for the money."
Student attend schools in two districts
Most pupils in the neighborhood attend schools in the Christina School District; a smaller number attend schools in the Colonial School District. Others attend Leasure Elementary School and continue their education at Christina High School, which begins in sixth grade and provides courses at the college level and work-based learning programs with nearby businesses and an honors academy. Leasure has a C-plus grade, while Christina has a B. The neighborhood is also local to the University of Delaware.e.
Glasgow Park has a little bit of everything
A popular destination for locals looking to get outside and experience nature is Becks Pond Park. People enjoy taking leisurely strolls by the water in the afternoons or going fishing in the pond. In addition, it's a perfect spot to arrange a picnic, grill some burgers, have a BBQ and let the kids play on the playground. Glasgow Park is located directly on Bear's edge. With its expansive, open green areas, paved paths, basketball, tennis and pickleball courts, and a cutting-edge playground, skate park and dog park, it's one of the most well-liked parks in the area.
Eating options are found on Pulaski Highway
Along with the construction of residences, Bear also saw the development of large commercial facilities along Pulaski Highway. There are numerous large supermarkets and well-known establishments to choose from, like Food Lion, Waffle House and Walgreens. Several options are available for eating out, with a significant blend of well-known brands and independent eateries offering locals a multicultural dining experience like Mom’s Kitchen, the Route 40 Diner and LongHorn Steakhouse. A popular spot in the neighborhood for pizza and Italian food is Trattoria Di Napoli. The Teppanyaki Grill and Supreme Buffet is a good spot for a hearty meal. Live mariachi music is also featured at El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant.

Bear is home to both Delaware Route 1 and U.S. Route 40, making it an ideal location for travelers. Wilmington Airport is five miles away.
