Situated on the border of Delaware and Maryland, 40 miles southwest of Philadelphia, is the community of Christiana. Boasting a charming suburban feel, plenty of amenities, access to nature and proximity to big cities, Christiana offers residents a nicely balanced place to call home.

Christiana’s curving, residential roads have a suburban layout and feel. You’ll see houses in a range of architectural styles, including colonials, split levels and brick ranch homes, perched next to each other on tidy lots that average a quarter-acre. These leafy lawns are enriched with mature landscaping, and most homes have short, paved driveways that lead to front-entrance garages. Here, you can get a three-bedroom brick townhouse for around $200,000 or a four-bedroom split level for around $350,000.

Students in Christiana attend schools in the Christina School District, which receives an overall grade of C-plus from Niche, and Colonial School District, which earns a B-minus. Albert H. Jones Elementary School, which receives a B-minus grade from Niche, is located right in Christiana, within walking distance of many residences. George Reed Middle School earns a C-plus grade from Niche and has a student-teacher ratio of 13:1. Christiana High School earns a B grade from Niche and offers students the opportunity to participate in the Honors Academy program, in which they can take advanced courses for college credit while still in high school.

For fresh air and exercise, head to Carousel Park on Limestone Road, just north of Christiana. Spanning 217 acres, this bucolic park has a robust equestrian center that offers riding lessons, hayrides and horse boarding. The park also has a horse-themed playground for kids to enjoy and two large ponds where you can fish or spot turtles. Another nearby option is Battery Park, perched on the edge of the Delaware River and featuring riverside walking trails and a pier for fishing and taking in the spot’s scenic sunsets.

There is a diverse range of dining spots scattered throughout Christiana and the surrounding areas. Enjoy everything from authentic Southeast Asian cuisine at Saap Lao Thai to a quick frankfurter and fries at Deerhead Hot Dogs. When you’re craving something sweet, Scoops Ice Cream slings creamy treats in a range of creative flavors.

Pick up groceries near home at ALDI on Main Street and Trader Joe’s on Fashion Center Boulevard, or buy in bulk at Costco on Center Boulevard. With Christiana Mall situated in the heart of the community, you’ve got all the shopping you could want right down the street from home. Here, you’ll find many familiar retailers like Target, Nordstrom and Michaels. Don’t miss the New Castle Farmers Market off Dupont Highway, open weekly on Thursday through Sunday. This large market features dozens of local community vendors selling produce and handcrafted items.

Proximity to Christiana Hospital offers residents easy access to medical care and a quick commute for healthcare workers. Residents can also enjoy a short drive to the local airport, Wilmington Airport, which is only 6 miles away. Though many people in this area travel by car, the community’s DART bus system makes public transportation an accessible option as well. When it’s time to get out of town, jump on Interstate 95, which borders Christiana, for a smooth route to wherever you want to go.
