Residential part of Newton with oak trees
Oak Hill is a village of Newton with wide suburban roadways shaded by oak trees. Mansions spanning 4,000 or more square feet sit next to each other on its winding, enclosed suburban roads, where neighbors keep basketball hoops in their driveways. Conservation land and wooded hiking trails surround the neighborhood, which has a private country club in its center. People move there because they want a quiet, secluded life in Newton instead of a neighborhood with a central business district. “Newton and Brookline are where families want to live basically for the school systems,” says Ryan McCormick, manager at Metro Realty Corp. in nearby Brookline. “You get more for your money in Newton, and if you want a suburb and you get out of Brookline and go to Newton where you get a little more space.”

Gorgeous mansions
Architecture in Oak Hill is grand and elegant. Homes include brick colonials spanning 10,000 square feet, contemporary split-level houses behind stone walls, brand-new contemporary homes, renovated 1930s Cape Cods and raised ranch-style houses with stucco exteriors. In the cul-de-sac community of Oak Hill Park, which is sometimes considered part of Oak Hill proper, it’s a lot of contemporary builds and new construction. Prices range from $422,000 to $7 million. The average home value is about $2 million. “From Oak Hill, it’s easy to get to [Interstate] 95 and the South Shore,” says McCormick.
