Situated in west Worcester County, North Brookfield offers views of green farmland with roaming horses and cows, dense forests and historic main streets. Home to both a solar farm and a Victorian-style public library constructed in 1893, the rural neighborhood preserves history while supporting modern development. “It’s a laidback environment, with lots of open space. The tax rates are also pretty reasonable, and it’s convenient for commuters,” says Cassie Paolucci, broker/owner of Post Road Realty, who has served North Brookfield and the surrounding area for 16 years. Residents have plenty of options for outdoor recreation and community engagement but remain near larger urban areas.
Colonial Revivals and farmhouses on quiet roads
Many homes are situated on the gridded roads surrounding North Main Street, but properties are also along the rural streets that meander across North Brookfield. “Driving through the area, you’ll notice lots of farmland and open space. It’s ideal for people who want to raise animals or have space for kids,” Paolucci says. Houses range in style; there are 19th-century colonials, 1970s split-levels and ranches and Colonial Revivals from the early 2000s. Open lots and farmhouses on large plots of land are also available. Colonials requiring renovations are priced at $175,000, but prices for well-maintained homes do not vary according to style. Most homes cost between $330,000 and $460,000. An open 12-acre lot is priced around $350,000, while a farmhouse with a barn on 10 acres costs $630,000.

Students are zoned to the North Brookfield Public Schools, which solely serves the North Brookfield community and has less than 600 students total, making it the smallest school district in the state. Kids can attend North Brookfield Elementary, which earns a C-plus rating from Niche and serves prekindergarten through sixth grade students. Students advance to C-plus-rated North Brookfield Junior/Senior High School for Grade 7 through Grade 12. The school has a student-teacher ratio of 9-to-1 and offers dual enrollment and Advanced Placement courses to help students prepare for college through the online platform Edgenuity.

Meander through Sucker Brook Wildlife Management Area
Located across the northern edge of the neighborhood is Sucker Brook Wildlife Management Area, where residents can find a densely forested landscape and winding brook. Residents can hunt, fish, hike and observe wildlife in this conservation area. For marked trails, Moore State Park is 10 miles northeast of North Brookfield and features rails with views of an old sawmill, pond and waterfall. State highways can take residents 20 miles east to Worcester and route to major highways like Interstate 90 to travel 70 miles east to Boston.
