Hoover-Foster is a small, primarily residential area located just north of Downtown Oakland and only a stone’s throw away from the San Francisco Bay.

The campus’s main building dates back to 1914 and references the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The school was declared a historic landmark by the city in 1985. They proudly offer five different academic pathway academies for students to choose from along with 18 different honors and advanced placement courses.

Get some fresh air in Lafayette Square, where you’ll find bright and cheerful playground equipment and murals from local artists. The park is the original site of the Chabot Observatory and was later redesigned to contain a play area for children shaded by palm trees. It has also been designated an Oakland landmark. Durant Mini Park has lighted picnic areas, a community garden, a walking trail and an amphitheater.

Locals can pick up their groceries from Sprouts Farmers Market. Or if you’d rather grab dinner out, swing by Javi’s Cooking. Known for his authentic Argentine empanadas, Javi’s is sure to get your mouth watering with local ingredients baked fresh daily.

Take your little ones to the nearby Children’s Fairyland U.S.A. This amusement park sits on the shores of Lake Merritt and is one of the first themed amusement parks in the country. Explore over 10 acres of rides and live animals in this immersive, creative environment that’s been putting smiles on children’s faces since 1950.

Hoover-Foster residents can enjoy easy access to the MacArthur BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station. They can also hop on Interstate 980 to head south through the heart of Downtown Oakland or west across the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.
