Challenging trails, small creeks and the Panorama Swing
Leona Heights Park is hidden in the lushly forested neighborhood. The expansive green space provides incredible views of Oakland from the 2.3-mile York Trail. The narrow, rocky dirt pathway passes by waterfalls, a creek and massive Sequoias. There is also the Panorama Swing, a simple wooden board suspended from a tree by ropes overlooking the Bay Area. To the west, Leona Canyon Open Space Regional Preserve covers nearly 300 acres with thick forest and a series of hiking and biking trails. Leona Trail follows Rifle Range Creek, which flows through the park’s center, while the Pyrite and Artemisia Trails snake from north to south.

Bus route 648 runs along Mountain Boulevard, and the Fruitvale and Coliseum BART stations are four miles west. They make journeying 17 miles to San Francisco or 40 miles to San Jose more accessible. Interstate 580 and Route 13 intersect along the neighborhood’s western border and lead to cities like Ashland, Dublin and Richmond. Those living along the 580 Freeway will hear traffic noise during busy times. The community is also 5 miles from Highland Hospital and 7 miles from Oakland International Airport.
