Cultural residential hub in Oakland along Lake Merritt
Merritt's energetic and diverse neighborhood is found at the shores of Lake Merritt, a large tidal lagoon in the heart of Oakland. With a blend of architecture that spans the centuries, access to plenty of green spaces and a proud celebration of its cultural variety, Merritt is a quality example of what Oakland can offer. “It’s a nice neighborhood with a wide mix of people, and the housing is less expensive for the area,” says Rich Fleming, a realtor and broker of Realty ONE Group Future who has lived in the Bay Area for over 20 years. “You also, of course, have great access to Lake Merritt from here, the BART station is close by, and it has good bus services for taking people downtown and onto 18th Street.”
Merritt's residents are proud of living in Oakland, a cultural hub of America.

A mix of single-family homes, condos and rentals
Merritt has quite a mixture of architectural periods and styles, considering that many of the original homes still stand from the early 20th century. The narrow Victorian homes paint the streets in a colorful wash and share space with modern duplexes and Art Deco condo buildings. “You’ll get some single-family homes here and a few condos, but this area is known to have a lot of rental units and renters who live here,” Fleming says. Single-family homes and condos both range from $550,000 to $1.2 million.
The Merritt neighborhood is full of older homes in an urban area.
Merritt's condominium options provide safer living and beautiful views of the lake.

Next to multiple green spaces with trails and lake access
Though a heavily urban area, Merritt is surrounded by maintained recreation and several parks. Pittman Green and Athol Plaza border Lake Merritt along Lakeshore Avenue, giving residents an open green space, a paved trail for jogging by the waterside and several tennis courts. Directly across from Anthol Plaza is a boat landing at Lake Merritt, which allows sailing, pedalboats and kayaks, with rentals available at the Lake Merritt Boating Center about 3 miles away. “Lake Merritt is so nice, and being in proximity of it is a huge deal around here since that’s one of the biggest things people in the city like to do is walk and bike around the lake,” says Tianti Richardson, an Oakland native and leasing manager at Domain Oakland.

Every first and third Sunday, they offer free admission and performances from guest artists. On Fridays from April through October, their “Off the Grid” series has live music and food trucks out in the garden area. Merrit is also minutes from downtown Oakland, where residents can enjoy a yearly lineup of big-time musical performances at the city’s infamous Fox Theater.
